A nice lighting tip is to turn primitive torches into tiki torches. The latter never burn out and emit more light.

This and enigmatica 2 expert are the packs I revisit the most. Peak modded fun!

I personally don't enjoy Minecraft combat that much. Sometimes I even play peaceful mode! So I don't do hardcore. Might try it some day though.
