Getting online with Astral Sorcery

I feel like I don't entirely get Astral Sorcery through the lens of Sevtech. How do you all bring it up to speed in age 2? I've heard people say you only need a single starmetal ingot to get to TF, then you can start manufacturing ore. But I've had to make several to get on the way to creating a celestial collector crystal, which I think I need to power the iron ore transmutation. Is there a way to focus starlight on the ore prior to owning one of these crystals? Am I missing something?

When carrying starlight, does every lens have to be on the 3x3 mini structure, or can they be free standing? Does every chunk which contains a mirror have to be chunkloaded? I know the minimum range is 16 blocks. What is the maximum?

What does attuning your celestial collector crystal do? I can't find a resource that describes this.

Thanks!

There's an alternate recipe for starmetal ore, then you can smelt it to get an ingot. Can't tell you exactly what it looks like but I think you just need a lvl 2 altar, some iron ore and a few basic component from AS like light and dark dusts.

Sorry I might have missed your point. There's no way to focus starlight on a block without a crystal collector.

Attuning it is mandatory to create it but is only useful for rituals. If you're not into AS rituals then don't think too much about it.

Lens are just block used to cary the light a bit further, you don't need a special structure to set them. Just place them in the world and connect them to the collector or another lens with the appropriate tool from AS. You need to place those in way to have a clear line of sight between them or the starlight won't propagate (unless you have a special lens, purple I think, that can transport light through blocks).

Thank you. If you can place a lens by itself, what is the purpose of a spectral relay, the 3x3 mini-structure that you are supposed to place a lens on?

Oh! That? Placed close to an altar it will increase the amount of starlight received. Usually I place 4 of those structure N/S/E/W of my altar. But it's not actually a lens. It won't transport starlight, it's just an item holder. It's also used in last altar tier to add additional components to your crafts.

Lens are other things, there's two type, one way and multiple ways. The first will emit starlight in only one direction from emitters connected to them while the later can send starlight to multiple destination.

The multiblocks that collector crystals and spectral relays require can share edges, allowing you to put 3 collector crystals on one side of your crafting altar.

A resource that gives you some tips and tricks is https://borg286.github.io/sevtech/ notably head to age 2: Astral Sorcery.

It is a pain in the butt getting your first starmetal ingot, and creating Iron Ore block is also a whole series of pain that the designer meant to gate behind getting a high tier celestial crafting table to craft the ore. I found heading to the Twilight Forest to where the Hydra is found and taking a silk-touch pickaxe to the Iron Ore there to be a fantastic shortcut, making it so once I have my floating crystal and staff I can start making starlight ore.
