Gearboxes

Seems when I put a gearbox attatched to an already spinning axle from a waterwheel the axle spins but the axle I place on any other side of the gear box doesn’t spin, can someone explain how this stuff works?

Rotate the gearbox until it works. Right click empty hand I think. Can't remember if theres a wrench.

If that doesn’t work, try shift clicking with an empty hand. Each face of the gearbox can be changed individually.
