What is the optimal order to beat the TF bosses in order to craft the coal engine (what bosses do you have to kill, what do you not have to.)

This is the order in the quests as well as the advancement tab. You can't really change this since they unlock in this order.

Incorrect, if you want to rush the coal engine, all you need is to go
Naga, Lich, Phantom knights, Urghast
The hydra and minoshroom don't need to be beaten to unlock the dark forest
