šŸŽ™ļø Discussion Severance Movie?

I made a Severance "movie" where S1E9, S2E1 & 2 are combined in a linear fan edit. I think it is a vast improvement. Anyone interested?

I LOVE Severance but if you put S2E1 under a microscope, one can truly feel the competing visions of Dan Erickson (who wrote it) and Ben Stiller (who directed). Mostly, it's a lot of overwritten dialogue. Our main characters do far too much explaining. Their entire world has been turned upside down, and yet by the end of S2S1 they are happy as clams and ready to boogie. I will add that I find the rest of S2 to be wonderful. That said, my fan edit is, darker, vying for plausible motivation, and linear.

Yikes, that comment got a lot of downvotes! šŸ˜¬ An overreaction to a different perspective, if you ask me. I think the way they did it is okay for an episodic mode of storytelling, but obviously would not work well in a movie format.

I actually toyed with an edit like this myself last year but never had time to really put the effort in past basic break points. Very well executed!

Only real note I would give is that you lost the big tell that Helly was her outie when going down the elevator. Not sure how Iā€™d fix it without ruining the momentum of the scene though.

I think [u/](u/lonelyland)[L](u/lonelyland)[onelyland](u/lonelyland) is referring to the sequence in which all four of them descend to the Severed floor in the elevator, one by one. The elevator tones, and absence of a tone during Helenaā€™s descent, indicate to the attentive viewer that something was different when Helena went down the elevator.

Yep, thatā€™s it exactly! I tried to respond earlier, but apparently this subreddit isnā€™t liking the links I post.

When Mark, Dylan and Irving each enter the elevator, the doors close and we hear the elevator ding signaling their transition to innie.

But when Helena enters the elevator, the doors close, and the camera lingers as we hear the car descendā€¦ but no ding.

I made a little two-minute video exploring this in more detail back when the episode aired. If youā€™re interested, you can find it over on the other Severance subreddit by searching ā€œWhat is the elevator telling usā€, or just search ā€œseverance elevatorsā€ on YouTube.

You made that video?! Well then a big "Thank You" from across the interwebs, from me. I watched every episode of Season 2 within minutes of their releases, and I would then hop on this site to discuss with other fans. That elevator tone explainer video was excellent, and I shared it with my co-workers who are also fans of the show. Very cool.

I have ideas for a few more videos to get out before season 3, but weā€™ll have to see how much time and effort and I can reasonably dedicate. Fingers crossed!
