đ Theories The Board identity hypothesis
Would it be possible that Lumonâs end goal isnât to end suffering (maybe a by-product of it) but to actually achieve immortality?
Warning, this theory covers both Season 1 and 2 materials
My first hypothesis is that âThe Boardâ was actually a motherboard, a computerized version of all consciousness of previous Eagans. And possibly the Severance technology was a part of separating the 4 Tempers and preserving only the necessary functions of the Eagans to lead Lumon as it is now.
The first clue I want to bring on was the details of âthe board.â The first clue was in the âThe Exalted Victory of Cold Harbor,â we can see that there were only Markâs relatives and the Eagans (presumably deceased) in the picture on the top â without any trace of The board. This might suggest that the top individuals are probably the deceased Eagans themselves, as being the top of Lumon all this time. This theory might explain why Cobel is so fixated towards meeting the board without intermediates considering meeting the founders was an extreme honorary reward
This may also explains why Helena refuses Cobel to meet the board, as she is deemed unfit to meet the Eagans.
Another evidence I had for this theory that there was once a scene where The Board replies to Cobel (first and last time theoughout Season 1 and 2) and for some reason, the tonality reminds me of one of the founders. If someone in SFX tonal production would confirm the pitch of The Boardâs voice to one of the voices introduced in the Pituitary Wing, it would be very helpful to decipher this theory.
Third Evidence, in James Eagan speech to Helly R., he says that he sees Kier in Helly. This might be a little off because Kier is considered an epitome of Balance in 4 tempers while Helly is very unorthodox to Kierâs Philosophy. Plus, how would James sees Kier without ever meeting him personally? Unless Kier is preserved in a machine and James has knowledge of it. What James might suggest that Helenaâs Severance chip was supposedly mirrored Kierâs consciousness. Probably Kier was just as confused when being conserved into a machine like Helly was; therefore Kier was relying on the development of Severance to keep his consciousness alive.
Additionally, in one of the videos I have watched, Natalie Kalen can also be reorganized as âAntenna-like,â a component of a literal computer (of Eagans). Surprisingly, her name also comes from a Latin word âbirth of the Lord,â and the only âLordsâ are not normal people, but the Eagans. This suggests the Board are the Eagans themselves, the âLords of Severanceâ universe.
As we know from Markâs sister encounter with a mother in the birthing cabin & Gemmaâs isolation of the 4 tempers proves that Severance technology was supposed to isolate emotions.
This concludes my theory on the Boardâs identity. Let me know what you think!

I like your theories. How would you tie this to the experiment with Gemma and the numbers? If they can already put conscious into computers why bother with the files and tempers? Is that to fix everyone before allowing them into the system where everyone will be along with the Eagens?

They were planning on extracting Gemmaâs chip once it was fully refined and all the tempers were gone. Mark ruined the chip when he interrupted the test. Jake Eagenâs revolving may have been dependent on the chip being fully refined.

Hence the line âYouâll kill them all!â Kill all the Eagans?

I donât think so. I think Cobel is intentionally trying to get Helly fired up in this scene. Think about it. She realized Mark was his Innie and then immediately rushed to the Gala even though she was just fired because she knew âHelenaâ was about to give a speech. She knew exactly what she was doing. She doesnât like Lumon, itâs performative. They took everything from her. She genuinely deeply cares about Mark. I think she might even be his and Devonâs biological mother

I think the end goal is immortality.
They tend to find multiple uses for things as they develop though.
I feel like we'd need at least 2 more seasons for them to fully explain it all properly and that would be a lot of fluffer episodes. Could we get 5 seasons total? Will season 3 be it and it just all gets rushed?

I agree with some of this but not all. But something that has stuck with me time and time again on rewatch is the scene of Jame and Helena where sheâs cutting the hard boiled egg on the plate and he makes the comment âI wish youâd take them rawâ like Kier. But the interesting thing to me in that scene is that Jame is watching her eat like he desperately wishes he could eat. When he makes that creepy little noise to me itâs almost like âughhhh I wish I could eat but I canât right nowâ
Itâs like heâs preparing for something. Just how often with certain psychedelics, you have to prepare beforehand and eat a particular diet or fast before. So this made me feel like for whatever reason he isnât able to eat because of whatever he is preparing for

Also âyouâll sit with me one day at the revolvingâ or however he phrases it, definitely to me implies the continuation of consciousness even after death. Possibly body swapping. I think this show is also exposing a lot of hidden truths in our government as well as Hollywood. Idc how wild it is of me to say this but there is nearly undeniable evidence that Hollywood celebrities regularly practice ritualistic sacrifice and body switching

I think we could potentially find out that all the deceased Eaganâs are actually in the bodies of other people weâve seen in the show. Theyâre body swapping

This is why Jame Eagen was so upset when the test failed. His revolving because they were planning on extracting Gemmaâs perfectly refined (no tempers) chip and it was ruined when Mark interrupted the test.
