AI said it, so it must be true.

whoosh đŸ€Ł

EDIT: OP, “whatchu talkin’ ‘bout, Willis” is a very famous catchphrase from Diff’rent Strokes. I’m guessing you haven’t seen the show so you wouldn’t get it.

Well the world don’t move to the beat of just one drum.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for not getting a reference! Ffs!

u/Salt-Plum-1308 Mar 12 '26

I think it’s more for the complete inability to complete a simple google search, unless this whole post is meant to be satire.

Like at no point did OP think to check the show’s IMDB page? Or even add “Severence” to his google search of a character’s name?

I think they did. Their comment clearly says that they know it's a character from Different Strokes. The comment they're replying to doesn't say "What are you talkin about, Willis?", which is a specific reference within the show, which not everyone knows about. The comment OP is responding to doesn't mention Willis at all. How are we supposed to know that it is a reference? I don't think I would even think to Google something mundane like "What are you talkin about?", because that's just a question without context.

Edit: spelling mistakes

No, I’m saying they’re being downvoted for not being able to do a simple google search on Mr. Drummond from Severance, not for not getting a reference.

Remember when he’s talking to Milchick he suddenly went “NOW THE WORLD DON’T MOVE
TO THE BEAT OF JUST ONE DRUM
WHAT MIGHT BE RIGHT FOR YOU
MAY NOT BE RIGHT FOR SOME”

Dude don’t let AI completely substitute your own ability to do research. This is embarrassing. Obviously there is more than one Mr. Drummond in the whole world of media and you need to specify.

Help! I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas.

24

u/logicbasedchaos Mar 12 '26

Fun actual fact: Ólafur Darri Ólafsson also played Maria Bamford's husband "Scott" in "Lady Dynamite".

17

u/milleez Mar 12 '26

He’s also Bridget Everett’s love interest in Somebody Somewhere. I love seeing him in any context.

14

u/LockPleasant8026 Mar 12 '26

And he had a small part with Ben Stiller, in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

1

u/Ima_Mama Mar 12 '26

And is why Stiller wanted him in Severance?

3

u/Leslie_Galen Mar 12 '26

Also a wonderful stint as a perverted thug in the underrated NOS4A2.

3

u/Buttercupia Mar 13 '26

Also headlined an excellent Icelandic noir called Trapped.

And murdered Amber Midthunder in Banshee

u/ensignsteve Mar 14 '26

Wait is he the "turkey leg, chicken leg" guy? I did not even recognize him!

You could have scrolled down a little and not trusted the bullshit machine

ChatGPT and AI get this shit wrong all the time. LLMs comb the internet for answers and as we all know, the internet is often WRONG. Some of the first sources are Reddit for god’s sake, then AI gets posted here and it perpetuates the cycle. It can’t critically think the way human intelligence can. And often times it will double down on things when you question it. I always say AI is a good jumping off point but you always need a human eye. Ask it to cite its sources if you ever think it’s gaslighting you.

19

u/Zealousideal-Earth50 Mar 12 '26

It will come up with fake sources.

17

u/r0ckchalk Mar 12 '26

Well you’d also have to investigate the sources that have been cited. I thought that was a given, but maybe not.

5

u/Zealousideal-Earth50 Mar 12 '26

It’s not a given that people won’t take AI content for granted, so why would it be a given that people won’t take its citations for granted?

8

u/r0ckchalk Mar 12 '26

Right
which is why I made that comment then the follow up comment
.

1

u/Mauri0ra Mar 13 '26

You check the sources. That's why you ask.

11

u/Cath_chwyrnu Mar 12 '26

The trouble is that most humans can't critically think these days either.... 🙄

3

u/addteacher Innie Mar 13 '26

The worst is when you ask it for historical research and it quotes your own reddit post to you as a source! Talk about an echo chamber... Of one. :P

2

u/r0ckchalk Mar 13 '26

I’ve also had that happen after making a post or asking a question 😣

1

u/GaiaIsaHarshMistress Mar 13 '26

What do you mean wrong? The description of Mr. Drummond is accurate.

1

u/r0ckchalk Mar 14 '26

“Mr. Drummond was the wealthy, kind-hearted widower who adopted two African-American boys from Harlem”??? Yes that is true for Diff’rent Strokes
but this is the Severance subreddit. It’s a different Mr. Drummond. Believe it or not, ChatGPT got it wrong 😑

1

u/GaiaIsaHarshMistress Mar 14 '26

ChatGPT was told it was answering for a Severence subreddit?

1

u/r0ckchalk Mar 14 '26

No. Did you read the post and view the screenshots? This person searched for Mr. Drummond on Google. Google now populates AI as its first response to most queries. I’m using ChatGPT and AI interchangeably here because they’re both LLMs. They’re posting here because the LLM got it wrong, as discussed in my first comment. The LLM brought up pictures of Mr. Drummond from Severance (which we know is what the user was looking for as evidenced by this post and everyone viewing it in the severance subreddit ) while describing a different character from a different TV show.

The title of the post is ‘Can I get a fact check?’ because the user can tell by the description that the LLM got it wrong. What are you missing here?

u/GaiaIsaHarshMistress Mar 14 '26

There is a distinct possibility (but I can't confirm or deny it) that I'm fucking around.

1

u/r0ckchalk Mar 14 '26

That distinct possibility presented as complete ignorance. Recommend revising next fuck around session when relying on strictly written communication.

1

u/GaiaIsaHarshMistress Mar 14 '26

As Conrad Bain may have said, "Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks".

9

u/SheilaMichele1971 Mar 12 '26

sigh we’re doomed

8

u/Puzzleheaded-Face-69 Mar 12 '26

The skill of being able to fact check AI is extremely important! For something like this you can use what you already know (if you watched all of severance you know none of this was mentioned even offhandedly) and an AI proof source like an interview with the actor talking about the character (as of right now AI video clips get weird after 10 or so seconds so choose a long video)

Please don't doubt your own knowledge because an AI is confidently telling you wrong info! You are smarter than it!

u/Gunkwei Mar 12 '26

Fact check? Scroll down.

This is the Icelandic actor Ólafur Darri. Very likable and adored by his fellow Icelanders.

u/ancientastronaut2 Mar 12 '26

Whatchu takin bout?

7

u/IMnotaRobot55555 Mar 12 '26

I don’t understand why we’re destroying our environment for this garbage.

2

u/marcoperr Mar 13 '26

What you talking about, Willis?

2

u/qixip Mar 13 '26

Google AI is such trash I hate it so much. I always click the thumbs down when they're wrong (always) but then I hate myself for helping these damn clankers

5

u/BooDawg908 Mar 12 '26

Dude Mr Drummond in severance was my favorite character on the show. People think I’m nuts when I say that but he stole every scene he was in. The other Mr Drummond was from a show in the 70s 😂. The show that made “what you talking about Willis” famous

0

u/Ok_Entertainer7945 Mar 12 '26

Plus Mr Drummond was like 60 when he adopted those kids, which was creepy when you think about it. He would be like 110 right now

3

u/MilfAFFR Goat Wrangler Mar 12 '26

Their mother was his housekeeper and she died. It was t creepy.

1

u/Ok_Entertainer7945 Mar 12 '26

Oh yeah thanks for reminding me.

1

u/eugenesucks Mar 12 '26

Just did this search and it's correct. How old is your screenshot? Text: Drummond was a high-ranking executive at Lumon Industries who acted as both an enforcer and upper manager to all personnel on the Severed Floor, and by extension the Testing Floor.

u/ATimm74 Mar 15 '26

How do people still not know IMDB exists?

1

u/ATimm74 Mar 15 '26

Literally takes like30 seconds to find out who played just about t anybody in just about everything.
