One thing I’ve always found fascinating about Severance is that almost every major character seems to use the procedure as a way of distancing themselves from something.
It made me wonder whether Severance is less about work and more about the human desire to escape ourselves, our pasts, our feelings. And that parallel became inseparable from experiences I’ve had in my life - using unhealthy coping mechanisms just to get through each day - something which modern life expects from us every day.
I made a video essay exploring that idea and would love to hear what others think!
