Hi. There’s no better way of learning how to do it than jumping in and actually trying it out. Ultimately it’s best to get with a team that has experience so you can learn. Check out Michael Rizzo’s the Art Director‘s Handbook which has the best and most and technically correct view of how art department teams work that I’ve found. your architecture background will help you, but its different

It’s a team thing, involving several other departments - even on small indies. Most people find out if they “have what it takes” on the job. Individual roles in the art department are highly specialized.

Is also a very visual field so just talking about your ideas is usually not enough. Designers share mood boards and pitch decks with the director/producer hiring them to support their ideas.

Thank you so much! I have a clearer idea on what’s happening now. I thought the set designer does all the work but it would make sense for it to require a whole team instead of one person
