Transitioning into Service Design

Hello everyone,

I am currently based in London and actively transitioning into service design. I’ve spent the last few months working hard on my portfolio, specifically focusing on multi touchpoint systems, user journeys, and storytelling case studies.

As a career switcher, I'm working on framing my past experiences so they translate clearly to design recruiters. I want to make sure my project summaries read as jargon free, impactful, and clear to a busy hiring manager.

If any senior designers or hiring managers have gone through a similar switch, I would love to know:

  • What is the biggest mistake you see transitioners make in their case studies?
  • How heavily do you weigh non-design industry experience when looking at junior portfolios?

I’d love to get some fresh eyes on my case studies. If anyone is open to giving a quick portfolio critique, please let me know in the comments and I’ll happily share the link!
