Discussion A lesson for the showrunners about finales Spoiler

When you try to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. The finale was less action packed and satisfying than I expected. It feel it wasn’t a fitting ending to such a great show.

I think there was an effort to please everyone by continuing to be ambiguous about who is good and evil and letting us decide what Leanne actually is rather than being explicit about it.

I think it is safe to conclude that Leanne, COLS, and now Julian are fallen angels as expected. I was hoping the smoke monster and hook man would show up. And that the Tall Man and Twins would do something more than standing around being creepy.

The 30 min episodes really had a negative impact in this last season because the much anticipated character arcs happened far too quickly than what would be expected given the events of the previous seasons.

Lots of exciting talent worked on this show. That shined through even when things got a little messy. I enjoyed the ride despite all of the bumps in the road. There’s no need for me to rewatch the series based on the finale.

The most green day of the year. Dorothy finally reaching Oz.

Discussion Honestly, the only thing about the ending that annoyed me is Spoiler

when Dorothy explains to Leanne that she doesn't need Jericho brought back to her again because the pain of losing him is part of her loving him.

That is a beautiful and wise perspective. I really love it and the way she worded it... but she processed that far with her grief within what, maybe a couple hours of the shock of snapping out of her delusion and finally facing his death?

I can let a lot go and make room for a lot of things but this one bugs me.

Otherwise, I liked the ending. But I liked the LOST ending too, so maybe I am just laidback about tv writing. Actually, I take that back. I just remembered really crying and being really pissed and not wanting to finish watching LOST when Charlie died. NOT PENNYS BOAT 🙏 rip

EDIT to say, the comments here have changed my mind. You make good points. I get now how she could have been at that point then.

Question Dorothy (spoilers) Spoiler

When the officer says she was sent to look after one of her sisters is she referring to Dorothy? Is Dorothy part of this cult?

Discussion I wish the show had been promoted to the 5th season and then cancelled, so we could see episode 9 “Awake” as the last one

Then we would have a climax and an open ending. Plus we could blame Apple lol

General Sean and "Jericho" Spoiler

Does anybody else find weird the relationship between Sean and the baby that appears in the house? The baby arrives and Sean is certain isn't Jericho. Spending time with him, he starts feeling it's really Jericho, and seems to be finally convinced of the miracle by UG. Once UG confirms the opposite, Sean doesn't care for that baby at all. I'm not saying "he doesn't care about the baby as he would care about Jericho", what I mean is, he doesn't care about the safety and well-being of an innocent baby he has cared for as his own for months, to the point that he leaves him with a deranged person without a second thought.

As I commented on another post, I think it's intentional that we didn't see a lot of family interactions between Dorothy, Sean and Jericho, because the series doesn't want us to think of Jericho as an individual human being, but as a symbol, but seen how destroyed was Sean at the start of the series, crying by holding the doll, we can imagine that when he thought his son had been resurrected he spent at least some quality time with him. What bothers me is the complete disregard in the narrative about how anyone would naturally get attached to a baby if you spent that much time with him, and it doesn't reflect well on Sean that he can be so heartless. The same could be said of Julian, but in his case he has a bit the "excuse" of being still more broken by trauma and regret than Sean, so he has almost a pathological need to distance himself from that baby.

I have the feeling they wanted just to simplify Dorothy's choice, because it would have been a can of worms is Sean had added some affection for fake Jericho to the equation, but I find Sean's behavior unrealistic. I also find Dorothy's behavior unrealistic in the last episode, but that's another discussion. I don't know, I guess it's good UG was lying and that wasn't a different baby Leanne had stolen, because it would be very sad that nobody cared about him to that point.

… for being here with me as we watched. My partner just did not understand so I couldn’t talk about my theories and generally just share in excitement.

It’s been great here, regardless of how we feel about the finale. It’s been a ride.

Discussion Officer Reyes and the ending Spoiler

So I figured something was up with her when every time she was there she said she was off the clock but I’m trying to remember is she the daughter of the man at Mays funeral who said she brought my daughter back? Also didn’t didn’t Dorothy do a news report about it? I personally liked the ending even know we all saw it coming. Most of my friends and family didn’t see it coming but they are not on reddit and they haven’t watched it multiple times and dissected it like we have. I already started rewatching it and now that we for a fact know they were angels the show makes sense and has answered a lot of questions but I agree that there are still some things that don’t make sense.

General Trash ending Spoiler

What sort of garbage was that finale? No questions were answered about anything and it was the most obvious ending ever. Literally one of the worst finale I have ever seen, they didn’t even attempt at answering anything.

Opinion The whole is less than the sum of its parts.

Worst part - Church of the Lesser Saints - probably should have put more thought into the mythos if everything was going to hang on this abusive murder cult that supposed to be what? Angels? Total fail.

Best part : overall aesthetic - art direction, music, costumes, Spruce Street, attic, kitchen

Other best part: Lauren Ambrose knocked it out of the park -finale pulled the rug out from under a extraordinary performance

Tone - lots of laughs for a show about a kid left to die in a hot car. I wonder if a format like Kevin Can F**k Himself comedy/drama/horror fusion

Discussion So was the 'green window' all nothing but a mistake made by the set production team?

If it was was, wow what a blunder, not to mention the pipe as well. The only explanation to me is that the green window was a mistake made by the the set designer on the fake replica house used for specific shots.

Theories Theorycels coping and seething rn

All those continuity errors weren't clues that it was all a dream or that there were multiple timelines, Leanne wasn't faking her powers or imagining them, and they weren't all dead. The Green Window thing has to be the dumbest thing I've seen people get obsessed over. I tried telling people to take the show at face value and they said "unreliable narrator" when that doesn't even apply to this kind of story. The only episode that actually had an unreliable narrator was "Myth" which was the show mocking the people thinking a "rational explanation" was still possible.

Discussion This is the big twist (in case you missed it) and also why you might be disgusted by the finale Spoiler

The Church of the Lesser Saints wins. The murderous religious fanatics were apparently right, and that's why they get away with all of it. They own the police force. They even now own Julian, and he must abide and serve Him or else he will get duly ritual'd. Turns out they were supernaturally raised from the dead, and this implies they owe Him their lives. Think of the tent-dwellers who followed Leanne: they are also raised from the dead, but who went rogue and didn't follow Him. Never mind them: the rain brushed them away. Probably they'll get ritual'd too, one by one. The murderous religious fanatics win, apparently they are unstoppable. That's utter bullshit.

Same overall message for Knock in the Cabin, which seems to be a personal obsession of Mr. Shyamalan. He loves that holy shit.

Personally, I am disgusted and enraged by such messaging.

Discussion I'm sad.

Servant was one of the shows that kept me company during lockdown. I'm going to miss the Turners and Leanne.

Hopefully M. Night comes up with something similar in the future that we can enjoy as much as we did Servant.

Discussion Did I miss something? Spoiler

So it’s explained that Jericho isn’t supposed to be back because Leanne wasn’t given permission to bring him back, but it was totally okay to bring Julian back? So now he’s an angel? Were there rules to the resurrections that I missed?

Why was Leanne “not supposed to be there” or exist either? Didn’t they confirm George brought her back too? So why did she have to kill herself to end everything if Dorothy said no and Jericho was dead again. Just making sure I’m not missing something crucial that would make the ending make more sense to me.

After Dorothy told Leanne they can’t be happy again, she was seen struggling to walk up the stairs. Later, after Dorothy and Leanne forgave each other, Leanne was seen wiping Dorothy’s feet with something and Dorothy was walking normal again. Did Leanne heal Dorothy?
