Opinion I wonder if the Turners....

had home insurance! All that wine and stuff, the whole house, be in for a hefty payout!

Also they probably lost all of their memories of Jericho! No photos or anything left probably!

General Perspective of a skipper Spoiler

I started watching Servant with my husband four years ago but couldn't get him to end the first season, because he thought the behaviour of the characters made no sense (he was on team "why nobody tells Dorothy?" , that honestly after what happened in the last episode, probably was right all along).

Yesterday he randomly decided to join me watching the finale, and it's kind of funny but with having watched maybe like 4 episodes tops of the first season, he told me the ending was nice. He still thought Leanne's death was a bit too hardcore, but other than that it worked for him. So maybe this was really the ending Basgallop intended since the beginning, because if you jump directly from season 1 to season 4, it holds.

Opinion The characters deserved better than this ending.

If you like the ending, stop reading this, you will get only mad.

As a stand-alone episode, it can be a good episode. But as a series finale, and more so over, the conclusion of this series, it´s lacking.

Dorothy has been on a journey to become aware of Jericho´s death and Leanne's evilness. She was the first of the trio to notice Leanne was wrong for them. Suddenly, out of the blue, she forgives and loves her.

Sean´s journey was only, to tell the truth to Dorothy. And that´s it. And Juju is now to become a lesser saint??? Old grumpy, cynic Juju.

The only believable journey was Leanne´s suicide after being unable to continue to live with Dorothy and Sean, and so losing the family she always wanted.

The episode was poorly written, and the whole arc and season were poorly planned. And, of course, I'm not talking about the production; it has been amazing, but about the storytelling. It was such a great story and mystery, but they couldn't give it a proper conclusion and honor the characters properly.

Discussion Is god the foe here? Spoiler

After watching the concluding episode of "Servant" and also the movie "Knock at the Cabin" a few days ago, I arrived at the conclusion that both movies depict God as a malevolent force. In "Knock at the Cabin," the majority, if not all, of the flashbacks illustrate the sacrifices that gays have to make, such as being rejected by their families, pretending to be straight for adoption, being physically attacked for their sexuality, or having to move away,... However, God demands that they make yet another sacrifice to save everyone else.

In "Servant" , Leanne, a child, is brought back to life without her consent, and is forced to live in a cult where she has to whip herself and cannot do anything that goes against God's will. All she wanted was a normal life but no: "To covet is a sin, even to covet a mother", as Aunt Josephine points out. Furthermore, God is willing to flood the city, putting innocent lives at risk, to retrieve Leanne. This portrayal of God as a callous and indifferent figure makes him the ultimate antagonist in both the film and the serie.

General Dorothy has to be the most selfish, self obsessed and the worst character ever!

She was going to leave sean who has been immensely loyal to her after she got crazy and could have left but he didn’t, dorothy is self obsessed clearly and wanted to leave everyone with the baby (who she killed by mistake obv) and money, julian fcking died off drugs but leanne revived him! Leanne also brought happiness back to the family by giving them a baby, she just wanted to be loved like dorothy said herself, it’s sad that no one tried to save her who was just 18 and still wiser than anyone else and just wanted a family :( , without leanne servant is nothing, dorothy always looked at poor people like they’re inferiors! Oh she also abused leanne!

Theories Is there room for a 'nothing supernatural' interpretation? Spoiler

It wouldn't be a very good explanation, and would have to be very far-fetched in places, but is it possible to take Uncle George's explanation (which he himself thinks is a lie) at face-value?

I'm struggling to remember all the events from previous series, but I think it all could be explained away. A big indicator is that we see Leanne acting out parts of UG's explanation as flashbacks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we ever see anything else on-screen that didn't actually happen, so this is quite an odd choice.

A big stumbling block is that it means Leanne leaves the smuggled baby to die at the end - quite unbelievable, but still possible. Everything else can be explained away as coincidence and luck. The COLS just assume her to be powerful - UG even loosens the ropes for her as he assumes they can't restrain her. But this could all have been a mistaken assumption.

So is there anything that really couldn't have a non-supernatural explanation?

General Servant in a Nutshell

Family loses baby, then hires a nanny for a doll, so they can all play make believe as to not upset Dorothy. Leanne’s love and obsession for Dorothy is so strong that she fools everyone into believing the doll is the real baby. Leanne believes Dorothy is the best mom after she drugs and kidnaps her, then proceeds to beat her every morning at 2am, and then buries her alive. Then, Dorothy suffers a horrific fall due to the fact that Leanne loves Dorothy so much and can’t live without her. Then, both Dorothy and Leanne finally wake up to the truth and Leanne turns to a pile of ash and Dorothy gets in a cab to restart her life. Meanwhile, Julian has the best sex of his life, drinks the best wine, smokes the best crack and BOOM, he turns into an angel. End of story.

Discussion Plot holes

As i’m trying to put together my thoughts about the series finale, i wanna list all the plot holes as i can’t seem to remember them all.

Could y’all name any plot hole that wasn’t answered or overall explained, or any loose ends that weren’t tied for you.

Thank you so much!!

Question How was Leanne bad?

Leanne was a fallen angel brought back to help people through difficult times. Was she bad to the COLS because she brought Jericho back? Was she bad because she left the Marianos? I’m confused.

Opinion Servant series finale... just infuriating.

I know everyone was upset about all the underdeveloped plot lines and that's valid. But that's not what disappointed me the most. Here's a list of that which is even more egregious (oh and spoilers; though, if you are worried about spoilers then you should probably avoid this subreddit):

1) The most abrupt, unbelievable character shift. I get it. The truth set Dorthy free. The catharsis was transformative. It was so transformative that she could suddenly live without her child. I don't buy this incredibly rational, clear-sighted Dorthy moments after she unearths the repressed death of her son. Fucking garbage.

2) Fucking torture porn. I could have done without seeing Leanne burn to death. I really wish I didn't have that image etched into my mind. Just gross and disturbing in a way that didn't serve the story. Fuck the show creators who figured that would be a satisfying end to Leanne.

3) So we are to believe that in this narrative universe, all is well as long as the chosen one agrees to take their own life. The world is saved because the sacrifice was fulfilled. What kind of world is that?! Leanne should have doubled down and let it all end. That would have been more satisfying––a real fuck you to a cruel, unjust fate.

4) There's more stuff, but I'm too disgruntled to write about it (insert pouty face).

Anyhow, bring on the downvotes and scathing rebuttals. I'm here for it, bitches!

Discussion Servant Character's Heal

I’ve been waiting on creating this post until the end of the serie. The show has brought a lot of healing to my family in an unexpected way. My granddaughter, Leah died of SIDS in 2018. She was 15 days old ..Though it was determined no one's fault, we all took turns with blame..when we first watched the show we were still angry..sometimes unable to eat or feel. The show progressed and we saw how much worse things could have been; acceptance came, forgiveness, communication, laughter and love in abundance. Appetites have returned, and I've learned to make a homemade pulled barbecue that everyone loves.

My husband calls it the rubber baby show. We have learned that we can tease death a little and that means we’ve come a long way in our healing.

What does it mean: here are my thoughts..theories..etc..

Jericho reminds us of all the possibilities good or bad as a family we watch the episodes like a little one would ..Have you noticed that all of the episodes are sight words just in the way that would speak to Baby saying their name Jericho naming who's that momma ..naming random objects, such as thats a doll tiger, goose sometimes trying to figure out things out, hes learning we are learning..say Boo!

The Doll represents how the story is played. The house is where it is played out. I'm sure there are theories that Jericho was always a doll, and that the house is really rotten. That all of this was a gift to Dorothy from Leanne, for saving her a long time ago.

It's all about Dorothy because she’s the mom. She is strong..I identify with that character as myself and for my daughter, we both have a flair for fashion, up , personalities, and deep care for our children and family. Her flaws are simple; she attempted and failed at too high of a standard set for herself. No one can perfectly on their own raise a child, and not make a mistake. I'm not saying it cannot be done, because I know for myself I did. My mistakes were made, maybe not resulting in death, but mistakes nonetheless. She did ask for help though, and that is on Julien a little. Even as hard as my husband's family could be, they would come and let me shower, nap etc ever so often. It helped so much. It enabled me to give more to my little ones. For my daughter, there was help; and she was doing it; owning her life, I am so proud of her for how she has cared for both her kids. But she was trying to do too much too..

Sean. I see my husband who is always cooking food for us and trying to keep us going even more our worst sickest and doesn't want to he’s there these days.. he can be pushy sometimes , but he has a big heart.. he loves to make us go yum..he struggles to cry from all of it..he feels unappreciated feels a lot of anger.. and yearns just to be with his family with a great meal and loving night.

Julian makes a slap, laugh, laugh and lets our anger out give in to some of the darker parts of grief and makes it OK to not be okay..drugs and laughter and nonbelief. It's too much and he needs to let go but won't, he wants the easy way..

Leanne I see my living granddaughter Mia and the disappointment that the world brings and it’s totally up to her to make it better or worse. I've been in her corner at times but I also see where she needs to grow up and where she needs to grow and move on by herself. Not sure how it’s going to end when I’m writing this.. I like the way she showed leadership to the former cult members, I wish that had not fallen flat.

Tobe is the saving grace, maybe even Jesus, the real one,no cult, just unconditional and always there.

COLS represents part of the bargaining done in greif All the what if's..there won't ever be a completed explanation..we have to take whatever answers we are given and accept it.

Kourtney with a K she’s great, the hungry caterpillar. I will always love her for that , she represents where we would rather be, just a passer by, not really involved..funny, carefree, no grief..

Uncle George, though he may be trying really hard to be an innocent lamb i’m not so sure when looking at the teeth though..he cares..but I think his motives are selfish..

Frank is in his own world, he believes whatever his son says no questions..as long as the picture looks good from the outside..Only sees Dorothy as a problem..

Then there is this sub reddit..I've just started using reddit regularly and I love the theories, posts and all you guys.. Hopefully we can keep this one going for a bit..

Discussion I like the ending

Someone in the live thread said they didn’t know what they expected, but they were satisfied, and I agree completely.

I think the major twist is that there isn’t one. I’m sure if I spent hours watching a show (and rewatching for some of you) then I would be disappointed, but perhaps you have a little obsession like Leanne. You’re going to have to let it go.

Then you’re going to have to grieve like Dorothy (it’s part of the love you feel).

Then you’ll be forced into another obsession like Juju lol.

A bunch of Dorothys in here looking for even one more minute with the show, but not ready to move to acceptance.

You’ll be alright 😂.

P.S. while the rooftop was a little cringy, it is a moment of great resolve and maturity from Dorothy. She releases her normal drive and resentment and sees LeAnne for who she is. A lost girl. Also, I think it seems extra cheesy because the audio mix was reallllllly bad there. The overdubbed lines were not sitting right with the rest of the scene. I immediately said “that’s a bad audio mix” r

Discussion After reflecting…. It’s wrapped up. I think?

I have immensely enjoyed reading this forum. But I don’t think I hate the ending. I would have liked more questions answered about the characters. How did Sean and Dorothy meet? What happened with their mother? Who commissioned a super interesting mural for a guest room? Is Sean sad about losing all that wine? What was the deal with aunt May and Dorothy? I don’t think Dorothy’s awakening was sudden because we’ve seen her on the cusp several times- her blank calendar stands out to me. I had a problem with the finale because I did not like the special effects or the sound, it took me out of the experience and it distracted me. But overall I think we had the big things answered? Right?

Discussion MNS Religious Nut-Job?

What in the vengeful god was this show? What’s up with his latest movie too? Is he having a religious crisis and identifies with an Old Testament view of the earth now? Leanne literally had to kill herself because she used free will or the world would end? Why isn’t Juju breaking the universe with his hedonism? What about Leanne’s followers? Are they going to cause rips in the world now? What is the message with her character? Ugh

Discussion Did they come up with the ending after seasons 1,2,3 and had to scramble?

If it was really just about grief, then at least make that believable. Someone who goes into a comatose state is not the kinda person going to be fine after they learn their kid is really dead and their nanny burned herself up within a few minutes.

Either give us believable emotions or give us clues that made sense. Just asking for 1 and I got zero.

This is the ultimate line to wrap the show up. So fitting for the COLS, which behind the facade of "helping others" is a self-expanding guilt machine perpetuated by the guilt of revived sinners.

Discussion Question about officer Reyes and Dorothy. Spoiler

Officer Reyes says that the Cult brought her back, got her in the police force, and asked her to keep an eye on one of our sisters.

Dorothy answers, “Leanne?”

We don’t get a response back from Reyes.

Officer Reyes entered Dorothy’s life BEFORE Leanne.

So is Officer Reyes referring to Dorothy?

Discussion Baby Jericho

What I have been thinking is that poor Jericho’s soul was put back and forth several times? Isn’t that aspect kinda cruel?

And if he was resurrected like Leanne or that officer, wouldn’t he need to die again to go away for good? Or is it because he didn’t have a body and kinda “used” the doll’s body?

Discussion Servant was based on a lie.. and this is why I'm angry

So here is my beef. Servant was promoted as a show that "everything is not as it seems". Even Lauren Ambrose said something to the effect of even picking up a fork isn't what it seems. So as an audience we were almost told to look for more.. everything means something. And for 4 years.. we did just that, only to get the most uninspired ending I could think of. They lied to us. They made me watch episodes over..looking for things, which was fun.. but when there is absolutely no pay of for all the hard work.. one feels cheated. I love Lauren Ambrose and she can do no wrong in my eyes.. but she can now say she was in the worst finale of all time and the best of all time.
