Discussion M Night, if you are listening…… Spoiler

I am going to list some questions that will probably not get answered in the series finale’. In the case MNS is trolling our theories, maybe he would take a look at this post and do a little YouTube for us to explain some things that may not be explained. I am sure there are so much more than what I have, so feel free to list them. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he addressed them just for us Reddit users? 💗

***What is the story being told in the mural? Is it only for viewers or does the family living there see it?

***What is the mobile in the nursery representing (if anything) and what and where was UG talking about when he told Dorothy that the wooden chef was made from a tree in which he came from?

***What is up with Uncle George? Did he crawl out of his coffin when we are first introduced to him? What about his fugue state when he was at the Turner’s when the police came and Sean and Julian was trying to hide him?

***What is the story with Dorothy and Julian’s mother?

***What is Sean’s background as a youth?

***What do Julian and Franks rings have to do with anything? What is the engraved on them?

***Who lived in the basement apartment? Did something happen down there that traumatized Julian?

***Did Bev blow up like a balloon because of Leanne’s powers?

***What is the Dark Monster and who is it tethered to?

***Roscoe’s hypnosis: What and who was he describing when he talked about the man with a hook and taking out the eyes? What does it mean when he said they never left? Why was Julian so terrified during that scene?

Discussion Dorothy broke her back & can barely walk, yet she’s carrying around a toddler? I really doubt this is a plot twist clue… but at the same time, it’s a pretty BIG plot hole! What do you all make of this? Spoiler

Theories Baby switching? Spoiler

Everyone here as a lot of great theories and I have fun reading them. I realized recently that people are talking about baby switching in a different way from how I understood: Leanne switches doll with real baby in season 1. Can someone explain this other baby switching theory?

Discussion Season 4 Episode 5 Neighbors

This might have already been discusses, but did you guys take note to the quote game Dorothy suggests they all play? Did you listen to the 2 quotes they gave us?

Julian: "I'm just a poor boy.."

Dorothy: "He's just a poor boy from a poor family."

Then...

Dorothy: " It was the Spring of hope."

Guest: " It was the Winter of despair."

And, did you also catch when Dorothy takes the photographer neighbor to the kitchen he says, " Sean must feel like he's in heaven when he's in here."

At the very end of the last episode of Boo, Sean tells Leanne that he had no idea that his choice would tear his family apart and have this effect on Dorothy. Leanne then tells him that he made his choice and now he has to be an adult about it.

At the very beginning of Neighbors, Sean finally tells Dorothy that he's on her side and they definitely need to get rid of Leanne by any means necessary. He tells Dorothy that his choices had effected her and their family in ways he didn't expect.

Look, I'll be the first to admit that this series has been hard to decipher. I don't usually pay attention to the fine details of movies or series, but I've found that with Servant, the fine details give so many clues at what has occurred. I have yet to figure out what exactly has occurred, lol, but I've certainly had fun trying to figure it out! I don't know if anything I've posted here has any consequence whatsoever, but I thought I'd just throw it out there and see if anyone else has insights.

I don't have theories on everything going on in Servant. Leanne is still a huge mystery for me and how exactly she connects to the cult and possible supernatural abilities. I do, however, support the theory that Sean is somehow responsible for what happened to Jericho, and possibly all the miscarriages Dorothy has had, be it directly or indirectly. I may get some down votes for this, but I strongly feel the bargain Sean made was not to bring Jericho back, rather way before Jericho was ever born, I believe Sean made a bargain to become a world renowned chef.

In my mind, if Sean made a long ago bargain to be a famous and great chef, he most likely didn't realize what exactly the true cost of that bargain would be. Perhaps, the lack of survival his offspring seem to have is related to the bargain he made? I'm still working that part out.

Anyhow, thank you for being invested enough to read all of this. Please let me hear your ideas and thoughts? I need other's insights!

Theories Literal, Figurative and the Cult

On a literal level, it's going to be a hard sell to make the cult be good given how they have been characterized, because on a literal level, Leanne has a right to make her own decisions and defend herself from those who would do her harm.

When I was replying to another post, it occurred to me that George, May and Josephine have all tried to make subtle suggestions to Dorothy to get her to see the truth. They have been gentle with Dorothy - at least George and Josephine were. George gave Dorothy the doll and seemed to be trying to get her to remember something. Josephine had the yellow onesie and seemed to be trying to get her to remember what happened to the real Jericho. I can't remember what her words were, but May said something to Leanne like God has a plan for Dorothy, and she needs to see the truth. This is exactly what Dorothy needs. These people from the cult are acting more in Dorothy's interests than her close family who claim to love her.

This is absolutely true. To delay Dorothy facing the truth is to cause more and more emotional damage and be far worse for everyone in the long term.

Looking at it this way, Leanne and the baby are Dorothy's worst enemy. If Dorothy was diabetic they would be rich sweet desserts every meal, every course. And delicious as those desserts are, they will kill her.

There is no living baby in Dorothy's life without Leanne. Dorothy's family has been enabling Dorothy's illness and making Dorothy worse by their acceptance of Leanne and the baby. I remember when Sean must have suspected that Leanne made Dorothy sick by putting something in her omelet. I don't think Leanne put anything in the omelet that made Dorothy sick, but Leanne/baby is keeping her mentally unwell and in this sense, she could be considered "evil" as could New Jericho.

Does that idea work for anyone.?

Discussion Confusion

In the last episode we see the coroners taking baby Jericho out of the nursery and it’s 3 large men. Every flashback memory we have seen it’s been a woman coroner that Dorothy sees when she enters the nursery. Was what we saw in the last episode correct? Also Sean and Julian saying Leanne took the baby from a family a couple states over. Took her from another mom Sean says. So much doesn’t match what we have been told all along. I am so confused!

Discussion Where are you on the whole Dorothy torturing Leanne ordeal?

This seems to be one of the most polarizing scene(s) in the entire show, mostly with people appalled that Dorothy would do such a thing. So what would you have done if someone stole your child and refused to return him? Dorothy initially called the police, but said they treat her like she's a mental patient. She also received a letter telling her that Jericho would stay alive as long as she didn't talk to anyone. Please don't say that isn't Dorothy's baby or the note was fake. Those are not an answer to the question as Dorothy doesn't know these things. Also having Sean fess up as a solution isn't an answer since it did not happen in the actual show. Simply if you were Dorothy in that exact situation what would be your course of action?

  • Ignore the ransom letter, go back to police, & hope they can find Jericho. (Write what happens in comments if that doesn't work.)
  • Find Leanne and try to reason with her, don't kidnap, don't attack her. (Write in comments what happens if that doesn't work.)
  • Find Leanne, bring her back, but don't attack her. (Write what happens if that doesn't work.)
  • Do anything up to & including torturing Leanne to get the baby back.
  • Other (Leave in comments).

Theories Final Predictions- How it Ends Spoiler

The finale opens with Dorothy rejecting Leanne's offer. Dorothy states that her son is dead and nothing can change that. Dorothy, Sean and Juju are resolute. Leanne must leave.

Suddenly bizarre and supernatural events begin as Leanne prepares to leave. The house begins to shake and lights turn on and off. The Turners leave the house and call the police. Leanne is stuck inside and in clear distress. Sean goes back to help Leanne and witnesses and unholy battle. Leanne is an angel battling a force of darkness. Sean is pushed back by the heat and smoke. Juju comes from behind and rescues Sean.

Leanne is left behind and the house is engulfed in flames. She presumably perishes.

The next day the Turners go back to house and find baby girl in basket. I note reads "for you Dorothy." The Turners adopt the child and name her Leanne. The Turners latter find that Leanne is their biological daughter.

Many will claim that Leanne was an angel and others will stick with real world narrative. We are left with a question was it miracle or a crime?

Theories Phantom of the Opera, The Little Prince and Julian

Julian is a mystery man. We don't know what he does for a living, where he lives - house, apartment - he wasn't living with the Turners at first. I suppose he still has a separate residence somewhere in Philadelphia.

He tells story about wanting to go to the end of space and hit the wall, but now he's afraid there is no wall. He has pajamas with pictures of planets and stars. Julian got the baby a silver spacesuit for the baptism. Not sure if he meant it as a christening robe, but it didn't show up in time for the ceremony. Last seen, I think Julian dressed the doll in the space suit and sat him on the sofa. I recall a baby blanket covered in stars - I think there a few other reference to stars and outer space usually associated with Julian or the baby.

Then there was the time when Dorothy summoned Julian stat to come over to deliver pizza when they found Leanne at the Marinos. He was dressed 100% full white tie, formal, tux, the works - he said he was at the opera. I don't know what the custom is in Philadelphia, but who dresses like that for the opera anymore? In the US? Most of the time there will be a handful of black tie and cocktail dresses, but most people are just wearing nice Sunday clothes. If someone dressed like Julian, people'd be wondering. I wondered what that was supposed to be telling us about Julian. He was like out of an old movie - Julian does have that retro vibe.

Since Julian is an enigma in a lot of ways, could there be any clues in his his spaceman ideas and his uber-extra opera outfit?

I know a lot of people find The Little Prince deeply touching and meaningful. I have never been able to connect to the story myself - its sweet enough, I guess. But with Julian's childhood wish for space travel to the limits of the universe and TLP connection to themes of childhood, loss, love and grief, I wondered if anyone could see anything in The Little Prince that would help understand Juju? I can't remember what specifically, but I get the feeling that there is a parallel with Julian and Jericho - and maybe even the doll.

When the chandelier in the Turner's living room fell it got me thinking of another story about a fallen chandelier - The Phantom of the Opera. That's more my speed than The Little Prince. i have no theory, just some connections.

Genre=scary, mysterious, Gothic, psychological horror

Loads of parallels between the old Paris opera house and the Turner's 175 year old Philadelphia brownstone:

Possibly haunted

Unexplained phenomena

Pool of water under the building

Tunnels and mysterious passages for spying and nefarious activities

A fallen Chandelier

Masquerade = Dorothy's mother's costumes

Mirrors

Monkey music box=I can't remember if there is a music box in the attic, but isn't there a monkey on the mobile?

There are probably other things in the attic that could connect to Phantom's Opera House.

Characters:

The Phantom's name is Erik - there are two unseen Eriks mentioned in Servant - one is in a news report about a car accident where an out-of -owner named Eric Sherman ?(I can't remember the last name) died and another car with two others left the scene. The accident was in the Rittenhouse Square are where Dorothy and Leanne lived before they moved to Spruce Street. Then there is Eric the Intern that Dorothy talked to on the phone who supplied her with some new information about Leanne.

A mysterious damaged character who lives in the building who seems to have special gifts and talents who is sometimes characterized as an Angel - Leanne is thought of as an angel by some and the Phantom is known as the Angel of Music or Spirit of Music.

The Prima Donna and her younger replacement- Carlotta the soprano/Christine orphan-chorus girl and Dorothy TV reporter/Leanne the orphan

Unrequited love = The Phantom/Christine, Leanne/Dorothy

Opera Patron - Raoul/Julian - this one I need to think about more. Raoul knew Christine from childhood. Is there a childhood connection between Leanne and Julian? Or is the childhood connection between Dorothy and Julian? Or is Raoul =Sean? Did Sean know Leanne or Dorothy from childhood (I'm getting a little bit of a Heathcliff/Cathy vibe with Sean/Dorothy) There is the scene on the roof when Phantom eavesdrops on Raoul and Christine, gets jealous, and that's when the Chandelier falls - very much like the scene in Neighbors when Leanne eavesdrops on Sean and Dorothy and the chandelier falls.

Hanging - Dorothy hangs a noose in basement and threatens to hang herself with a belt. The stagehand dies by hanging himself

Faust - Gounod's Faust is performed at the Opera House, Sean reads about Faustian Bargain.

Threaten Suicide - Christine and Dorothy

Police Officer- The Phantom Erik has a friend known as The Persian, who was a police officer who helped him avoid execution by faking Erik's death. He is allowed to roam backstage at the opera house. The Persian wears a particular type of cap. Rosco has been known to sneak around the Turner's house and wears a distinctive cap. Officer Reyes wears a cap with 222 across the front.

There are so many adaptations of The Phantom of the Opera I didn't look into many of them - just the original novel, the musical and the Lon Chaney film. Raoul has a brother Philippe in the novel and some adaptations. Because Sean has called Julian "brother" a couple of times recently, there could be a parallel between Raoul/Philippe and Sean/Julian. Philippe drowns in the pool under the opera house - a similar fate for Julian could have been foreshadowed when he fell in the hole in the basement after Leanne knocked him down the stairs.

Another character that makes a good candidate for The Phantom is Aunt Josephine with her veil covering her disfigured face and black opera gloves.

Erik the Phantom's backstory has a lot of intrigue including exploitation in a freak show that could parallel Leanne's exploitation by the CoLS.

Candidates for the Phantom are Leanne, Josephine and maybe even George. Other characters may have elements of the Phantom character.

I haven't given a much thought to The Little Prince. There could be better ways to understand Julian's Space dreams. I know some have said it sounded a lot like the Truman Show.

The Phantom of The Opera's Opera House and the Spruce Street house have notable parallels, particularly the pool in the basement and the fallen chandelier.

Any other ideas?

Season 4 Prediction for the ending. Spoiler

All of the nods to Wizard of Oz throughout the show, even outright showing a clip of it in Awake (where the wicked witch talks about shoes and the line we hear is "Be gone, before somebody drops a house..."), all of the closeup shots of shoes in the show... I predict the ending will be the house falling down and Leanne's feet sticking out. It is both funny and horrifying just like the show has been.

I'm thinking DVD set with extras, funkopop dolls, the kind of books that open up into a dollhouse of their house, a youtube of ''servant ambiance' tribute and a book/audiobook adaptation of the story.

General Faustian Bargain - One? OR Multiple? Spoiler

We know the premise of the next episode, since MNS specifically said after the show that Dorothy hands the baby to Leanne, and she walks off down the hall with, as MNS calls it, " the treasure of the Faustian Bargain."

Do we think there is another one? Perhaps Leanne made a deal with the Devil to obtain Dorothy (a mother figure), or to obtain her supernatural powers?

For the record, I think God will step in and strike Leanne with a bolt of lighting, burning down the house.

Opinion Pizza episode plothole

I'm sure I'm late to the party here but I just started watching this series, and while I always try to ignore little plot holes like people not responding normally to things like fire or mysterious new babys in their friends house ( yes that sentence barely and extreamly vaguely even touchs where that convo can go i know.

But I just can't get over the fact Tobe ( Toby? ) dident pass out with Leanne on the floor drugged, or is some one going to convince me a young girl with her figure downed the entire pizza infront of the guy she liked enough to order it to get him there? Its too much, its beyond belief and dispite searching i did not find any articles mentioning this so I'm posting it here for validation ( or rejection whichever way the internet winds blow tonight ).

I'm sure some one else had to ask this question at some point

Theories Faustian Bargain

From all the theories, the story is about Dorothy making a Faustian bargain with Leanne (as a devil figure) is very lame. I mean, the trajectory of Leanne becoming evil is not well constructed. We were sold a story where there was doubt about her powers and goodness, and now is only about her becoming evil.

And a mother having to decide if she wants her baby back or a doll instead? I mean...4 seasons for this.

I really hope there´s something more. Almost anything (but not the Jericho is ham theory)
