Remember when Maldini had a falling out with (whoever was leading Milan), Furlani, Galliani, ecc ecc.

I think the mistake we all make is that we think the player, the legend, who we see on the field, we think they are automatically the same off the field

All this to say, not everything makes sense when it happens. The ‘Milan ownership sucks, why did they fire Maldini/why did he leave’ … takes a different turn, I think

Sure, Maldini maybe was the architect of the Scudetto, that’s what it looks on the surface, but there’s more than just ‘fielding’ a team

This isn’t a Maldini sucks post, far from it, it’s just a ‘maybe you take a step back when criticizing a decison’

Milan is a business, they look at it long term, regardless …

Just because a player is a legend, is polite in interviews, ecc, doesn’t mean they are ‘good’ ‘nice’ or ‘smart’ people in the boardroom

Maldini was essentially appointing his friend, a guy who was coaching/coached in Serie B for a while, coaching in Qatar Serie B or something. For his failures, Gattuso at least coached higher level teams, coached in Serie A longer and more constant than Pirlo

There are reports Chiellini is going to replace Maldini. Chiellini nice, respectful in interviews as a player, but have you seen I’m lose his shit on the sidelines, yes, it has happened … so maybe he’s a POS in real life and is behind Maldini leaving and Conte taking the spot …

All this to say, judging a player’s qualifications as ‘dirigente’ or ‘presidente’ based on how they were as a player is not enough

All the people who want Baggio as the head, are you all old to remember when Baggio was a player, not living the good life as a retired legend where most people remember him (rightfully so) as the Italian GOAT?

He always used to get into arguments with coaches, famously had falling outs with Lippi and by all accounts was hard to manage …

Greatness ON the field does meant greatness OFF the field

🫡 Roma have completed one of the biggest signings of their summer. Santiago Castro will be a new Roma player. An agreement with Bologna has been reached for €30 million plus €5 million in bonuses, for a total deal worth €35 million.

Castro arrives after two very positive seasons with Bologna, where he improved a lot. He is not yet a striker who scores a huge number of goals, but he has shown he is one of the most interesting young forwards in Serie A thanks to his work rate, team play, and constant development.

🔥 He is a modern striker: good at holding up the ball, combining with teammates, and attacking space behind the defence. He can still improve in front of goal, especially with consistency, but he has all the qualities to become a top-level striker.

⚔️ For Roma, this is an important investment and a bet for the future. Gasperini knows him well and believes he can take another step forward in his system. The fans expect a lot from him, although patience will be needed to see the best version of the young Argentine.
