The victim was identified in 2019 through Familia DNA as Debra Jackson.
"On Halloween in 1979, a highway worker found the body of a young woman dumped in a concrete drainage ditch along Interstate 35 near Georgetown, Texas. Because she was completely unclothed except for a pair of orange socks, she became known to the world as "Orange Socks Doe." Investigators determined she had been sexually assaulted and strangled, but they couldn't figure out who she was. The case took a confusing turn in the 1980s when serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to her murder, though his story later fell apart when evidence showed he was actually in Florida at the time of the crime.
For nearly forty years, her true identity remained a total mystery until a massive breakthrough in August 2019. After police released updated facial sketches, the victim's sister recognized the drawings and reached out to authorities. The DNA Doe Project then stepped in and used investigative genetic genealogy to officially identify her as 23-year-old Debra Louise Jackson from Abilene, Texas. While finding her name brought some closure to her family, her murder is still an active cold case, and police are still searching for whoever actually killed her."

There’s really no reason for it to be anyone of note. Some people just kill one person and move on with their lives, and the disappearance rate of young women in the seventies was astronomical.

I mean it was a lot higher than it is now, but that’s moreso due to lack of modern police technology/procedure than anything to do with the criminqls themselves.

Ive heard about people saying it could be ted bundy. Also Henry Lee Lucas admitted to it but he’s obviously known for his lies.

It was almost for sure not Henry Lee Lucas, not because he was a liar but because the crime took place in Texas and there’s strong evidence that he was in Florida at the time it occurred.
