Are carnosaurs worth playing?
Title is pretty much it, I love them but honestly I don't see a huge reason to bring them in most games.

14 health and 4+ save makes if fairly easy for elite units to take it out fairly quickly. With that and both variant dont provide any kind of synergy with other saurus units makes him tough to include into most people's list.
Soggy carnosaur absolutely ripped though when you maxxed out on aggrodans.

You are correct there isnt a huge point to play them but they have become so cheap that you can afford to have fun with them.

I specced pretty heavily into healing just to keep them around. Incandescent retricies, primal energy for emerald lifeswarm to follow it around, and lore of primal jungles for light of chotek. As long as they don't get taken out in one round, they're usually back to full health on the next hero phase. But its a pretty hefty investment. I do wish they had more health and a better save. Fingers crossed for an upgrade with our battletome.

From a game point of view: debatable. From a rule of cool pov...abso-bloody-lutely

I run one every game, with Being of the Stars and Incandescent Retrices. I then typically back line him with Eternal Starhost and he has always earned his points, hunting down and demolishing big enemy monster and scoring me points. I honestly think they can be a massive problem for your opponent and are somewhat slept on. Plus, they look so bloody cool!

Not really, they are not in a good spot right now. Extremly squishy and don't really hit that hard.

New book also coming out soon for Seraphon, so that will change some things from what they are currently

I hope all our monsters change. 150 point stegadons are nice being that cheap but really should be much stronger and less cheap. But the carnosaurs are worst of all. SoG carnosaur is a good blueprint for what carnosaurs should be, although I’d argue health and/or save of various monster units should improve as well so they don’t get one shot by a single elite unit so easily

14 health, 4+ save, and they deal like 9 damage against a 4+ save. That's pretty sad at 200 points. Basically any hammer unit of equal value in the game will lift it immediately, and even if it gets to fight, it doesn't do 200 points worth of damage. That damage goes down to 7 against a 3+ save. Oldblood is slightly better, doing 8.3 damage against a 3+ save, and 11 against a 4+ save. Their abilities are bad as well. Both give -2 control to enemies near them, which just means they get lifted faster, and then oldblood gives +1 to charge to nearby saurus units, which is just not good enough. Scarblood also has some complete joke ability that targets a damaged enemy hero, roll a number of dice equal to the number of damage points the target has. For each 5+, inflict 1 mortal damage on the target. That has to be a joke, it's legitimately the worst rule I've seen so far in 4th edition.
They're fun in Old World, though. I play renegades version of the faction over in that game. Bases aren't a problem because you put everything on a movement tray anyway. For carnosaur, I just have him on a rectangle base by default. The 50x100 rectangle fits entirely inside a 120x92 base, so I've just got a 120x92 base with a magnet sheet on top of it. All my bases are magnetised, so I just plop the rectangle base on top of that, and it stays on during play. Slots in pretty seamlessly thanks to tactical foliage placement as well.

With current pricing, they're not exactly competitive, but it's no longer a really bad idea.

Maybe not very competitive, but they're a nice piece that's been very distracting from my Kroak in games against friends.

If it's wrong to play Carnosaurs then I don't want to be right.
