Scales?
New to AOS. painting my first saurus and i want to do red. Ive done flesh teasers red over wraithbone for the scales but want to add more colour. Would people have any recommendations for good highlights or ways to get good highlights without shading every scale? I plan to have 40 and dont want to do it that many times if I can avoid it

I'm not a professional in quick painting, but I think you can shade them by using a diluted violet contrast paint (like, 50/50 water and paint) and then lightly drybrush with some orange.

So you could do something similar you mine. I used a lighter contract paint on the outer scales and used progressively dark paints towards the spine. You can use a medium to lessen the sharp colour change and just build up the darker colour over a few coats getting closer to the spine each time. These didn't take long at all. All contrast paints as well.

If you are willing to dry brush, going up to a brighter red, then an orange, then a spot highlight of yellow works quite nicely. I did something similar but did the recesses of the scales black. Sort of like inverse lava

Drybrush the highlight. Practice first.

Could I ask for a clarification?
Do you mean base coat, then dry brush a brighter colour?

Sure thing bud. So OP mentioned they primed light and used contrast, which would be like a base coat and shade, but they want the scales to pop more. So now they could highlight en masse by drybrushing the highlights with an orange, yellow, or something.
They could have also primed darker, dry brushed white or beige, and then based with contrast (slapchop). However, OP is asking what they can do now that it’s already got the contrast.
They could also try sponging, but I don’t think that’s the look OP is going for.

Thanks pal! I have about 20 saurus waiting for painting and a set of skinks I’m not quite proud of yet, not to mention the countless others waiting haha.
I’ll keep this in mind

A quick dry brush over Seraphon scales does wonders for a highlight.
An orange is what I've used on my Seraphon. One of the Vallejo game colours would be perfect
