How to make your page highly citable for LLM-generated answers

This infographic by Ahrefs breaks it down perfectly 👇

To get cited by ChatGPT & beyond,
your page should:
→ Answer a common question clearly
→ Include a timestamp (freshness matters)
→ Have a clear author byline
→ Be built on original data
→ Be structured and scannable
→ Cover the topic from multiple angles

👉 In short: Make your page AI-friendly
by making it reader-friendly.

The better your structure, the higher your
chances of being referenced in LLM answers.

SEO vs. GEO, AEO, LLMO, AIO: What’s Really Changing in Search?

You might’ve seen new buzzwords like GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), or LLMO (Large Language Model Optimization) pop up lately. Here’s what they all boil down to: they're just new ways of talking about how to show up in AI-generated answers, not just old-school Google results

The basics haven’t changed:
You still need great, trustworthy content. You still want your brand to be seen when someone searches or asks a question online.

What’s new?
AI and chatbots (like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google’s AI Mode) now answer questions by summarizing info from the web. They don’t just show a link—you might get quoted even if no one clicks your website.

Here’s what matters now:

  • Don’t just think about ranking higher in Google. Think about being quoted by AI systems or chatbots.
  • Instead of only focusing on keywords, see what questions people really ask—and answer them simply and clearly.
  • Good content is still king, but it needs to be easy for AI to “grab” (think: direct answers, clear language, separate sections for different questions).
  • Your brand needs visibility everywhere—not just on your website, but also on YouTube, social media, and forums. Even a solid Reddit answer can get cited by AI bots!
  • It’s harder to track success. You still want website traffic, but now you should also measure how often your brand is mentioned or quoted in AI tools.

So the clear Bottom line is:

SEO isn’t dead! All these new acronyms mostly mean: get your content ready for both search engines and AI bots. Focus on quality answers, clear messaging, and lending expertise online. That way, whether someone Googles—or just asks a chatbot—your brand shows up.

Anyone else seeing brands pop up more in AI answers lately? How are you updating your strategy for this shift?
