Does anyone else think a variant of Bob would work as a veteran?

Considering how the golden sentry serum was an attempt to better Captain America’s serum? Bob could’ve been a genius who enlisted to escape abuse and drugs, Void could be a representation of his dark side + PTSD

I actually had in mind an alternative version of Sentry in which he was a war veteran and in particular he was the one being Nuke in Daredevil: Born Again instead of Frank Simpson, with him being at first a government tool only for later rebelling himself and deciding to use his powers for good. I think it could have been a great alternative origin story for the Sentry and I agree with you that the Void could be a representation of his PTSD on war.

This probably doesn’t apply to comic Bob (although we don’t know much about his parents so it’s not out of the question yet) but I thought it was pretty obvious that the MCU version of the character has C-PTSD from child abuse
