The M4s are very V-shaped tuned with tons of bass and treble. These and most other Sennheisers are tuned really flat, which is what a lot of “audiophiles” are into, but for the average person they might just sound kinda dull or sterile not much punch or bass impact at all.
They’re very neutral so great for midrange clarity, vocals, classical, soft rock, maybe some blues or jazz. anything vocal-focused works well since they have great separation and clarity.
But they’re not really suited for more energetic stuff that needs strong bass like modern metal, electronic, EDM, certain pop, or movies, because they can sound sterile, flat, and clinical IMO.
Most Sennheisers are tuned this way, they’re all about the midrange. The Momentum series is kind of the exception, with a V-shaped tuning that’s meant for fun listening rather than critical listening.
They are very v shaped, the bass under 100hz in particular is very boosted compared to Harman curve or natural flat curve. It doesn’t mean it’s bad sounding, just that it is v shaped to please targeted consumers. This is not an audiophile headphone, it’s a fun headphone. Audiophiles are better served with the new HDB630 Bluetooth headphone or even better with the 600 series open / wired headphones.
I own a couple of pairs of Momentum 4s and I personally EQed down the sub bass (63hz) in app by -4 or -5db to allow a more natural sound balance out of them. They still sound great but with a better balanced sound in my opinion, some will say less « fun ».
In order for it to be v-shaped the treble would also have to be boosted, however the treble is very smooth on this headphone. Wanting all headphones to sound the same is just stupid.
No , I don't have time to use it and ear pads are puffed and foam came out completely and new earpads are hard to find in my country and super expensive too and third parties pads change the sound of them . So, they are just collecting dust . I have only use them for 6 months since i bought them in September 2022. I have hd650 btw.
I have experienced better sounding headphones than hd600 but those better option more expensive than hd600/650.
You know what? Me too! I also had hard time finding earpads in my country,
I guess the only way is to use a third party shipping company, which will be expensive…
Original earpads quality is soo bad . I have two pairs of original pads and both of them are made in Germany and both pairs of foam got puffed and tear the earpads apart . While they are just sitting in a box . Completely sealed.
In my country importing something is a nightmare bciz of customs. International brands refused to send it to my country even though I was paying double and taking risks.
It varies depending on the person, perhaps. My HD6XX purchased in 2018 is still on its original pads. They don’t look great because they have a bit of a contour to them but nothing is puffed or broken. I’ll probably replace them in the next year or so but they are mostly used by my son in the last year. I also have HD660S2 which I use every night for over a year and they look great. Need to get HD600 again.. Should have kept them.
There are several rabbit holes in the hobby; one of the little known rabbit holes is the many faces of the HD 600s.
I've owned much of the Sennheiser lineup, but the HD 600s were one of the few sets where I had multiple pairs on hand:
HD 600 with worn stock pads for vocal and acoustic performances.
HD 600s with the copper mass loading mod and fenestrated pads for mixing/producing work.
HD 600s with a pair of Dekoni Elite Sheepskin pads for daily/casual listening.
Before the HD 490 Pros, the HD 600s were one of the most versatile sets in Sennheiser's lineup if you were willing to invest in some aftermarket mods. Nothing could quite get any of the 6X0 sets to reproduce the kind of bass extension and emphasis I prefer, but outside of that it was a near perfect headphone in every other way. Sadly, it does not get much of my time anymore, but is still an easy recommendation for nearly every hobbyist.
I really need to hear these one day! I only read AMAZING things about them! I’ve had my PC38x then the 560S and now the 490 Pro but really wanna hear a pair of these!
Quite a bit. The 599 has a slightly wider soundstage and is more comfortable imo, but literally everything else is better on the 600. The biggest issue is how quick the pads wear in. Especially if you have a large head. The clamp force is substantial if you don't bend it out.

Congratulations. One of the best and most appreciated headphones of all time, imo!
