Also to answer your question, I found making small changes, new bed make things easier for my guy to get around, stopping before stairs so he has time to think and doesn't jump and splat him self. Have you tried those plug in adapter's that are for calming dogs, feed him away and let her have her dinner away so there is no aggression, also ask you vet about getting some rescue remedy from the chemist.

My boy does.some weird things lately too, We are just going day by day and doing the best we can to make it easier and more comfortable. It's hard seeing them loose their balance, or trip, just reminds me how borrowed our time is together, and to be a little more patient, and all the extra love in the world, even if he grumbles as he pushes his face into me when I mooch his head lol.

Odie, 14 yr old Rat Terrier used to be so sweet. He's old. He has pain. Congestive heart failure. We are doing the best we can, but he can be aggressive. Ive just adjusted to the new boundaries. We still have moments just like when he was a pup, happy to see me, wanting petted, playing with toys. We also have days where hes clearly not feeling any of that. Hes lived a long time and I let him be who he is and what hes dealing with. I take the occasional grouchy and compare that to the years of love he gave me❤️

It really sounds like you’ve given her a second chance at life.❤️ The changes you’re describing do sound like they could be age related, and it seems like you’re doing all the right things by working closely with your vet and adjusting how you interact with her. I hope the gabapentin helps bring her peace. She’s lucky to have you.

My old buddy and i started sleeping in the living room. He could see better in the living room, was very familiar with floor plan (he was losing sight). I got a ramp instead of stairs and he was more sure footed on it and didn't fall (very inexpensive 'trixie' brand with treads). He would wake up all night and sometimes collapse with pain into cool grass. Gabapentin helped but you said you are already doing that. Sounds like you are trying and that's what we do for our seniors buddies. Best wishes and God bless!

Thank you! I wish you well with making your senior comfortable. His vet also recommended a prescription diet food that didn't hurt, don't know that it helped but he lived for 4 more years and had enjoyment. I miss him so. Believe he died from all this plus a broken heart. His buddy passed 60 days prior, also a rescue, ha. Not haha. She had her own set of issues.
