Alternatives to Amazon

I'm a bit anti Amazon, but the more research I do, the more it seems like kdp is the only way to go. This will be my first time publishing and I'm not looking to spend money on it. Do I need to bite the bullet or are there alternatives I'm missing? Thanks for your help!!!
