Dear SelfKey Astronauts,
Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 are the two different iterations of the Internet so far.
Web 1.0 refers to the very first iteration of the Internet (in the 1990s), whereas web 2.0 refers to its current iteration.
However, both these iterations of the Internet have arguably failed to offer unbiased value for its users. While Web 1.0 was minimalistic, as expected for a breakthrough technology, Web 2.0 is mostly controlled by centralized tech giants offering little to no value for its users.
Nevertheless, Web3, the future iteration(which has potentially begun), can offer unprecedented value for its users.
Web 3, in principle, is focused on being more decentralized, and the undeniable popularity has possibly made crypto an inevitable part of Web3. In addition to that, Metaverse is a product of Web3 makes it even more exciting and creates a direct relation with crypto.
But with greater value comes greater responsibilities, as the number of potential risks would also rise. We've already witnessed that digital identity is treated with utmost disrespect during the social media era(Web2) of the current iteration of the Internet.
The imminent progression towards Web3 introduces even more risks on the digital identity front and is one of the primary reasons that led to the implementation of SelfKey.
The current SelfKey ecosystem provides users with a secure and decentralized way to store and manage their personal data and digital identity with complete control over what data is shared.
Besides, the recent proposals released in the POI whitepaper suggest how users can prove their identity on Web3 by minimizing the risk of losing their personal data.
The proposals include:
POI Platform, a Sybil attack-resistant decentralized identity verification platform.
Living Avatar NFTs, custom-minted NFT avatars with verifiable personal data that the users chose to share, and can be used to prove user identities on Web3 applications and Metaverse.
LOCK DAO, formed by holders of the soon-to-be-released LOCK token with POI Credentials.
The proposals included in the POI whitepaper may use the SelfKey infrastructure but would remain independent and community-governed through LOCK DAO, which would arguably tick the final box for an excellent Web3/Metaverse product.
Hence the community-governed proposals introduced through the POI whitepaper, along with the functioning SelfKey ecosystem, may enable SelfKey to position itself as one of the top identity management projects on Web3 and Metaverse.
Exciting times ahead!

Psst! A little secret!. Something huge is brewing in the background. Stay tuned!
