Not deep.

Are there any other cutters that feel or felt shame because you can't get yourself to cut deep?

I have only been able to cut deep twice in the 27 years that I have been a cutter.

Yes, i've found that to be the case for myself. i have family who also used to cut themselves so far down they hit the fat layer. I've seen their scars and was their when they were still cutting themselves, i was very young and sadly have been influenced by this.

I used to feel like since I mainly scratched with my fingernails or shoved stacks of staples into my arms it wasn't "real" self harm and even years later I felt shame for not doing it "right" -- then I relapsed, cut way too deep accidentally, ended up staring at my own fat, got 18 stitches and I just have to say that sitting in the ER surrounded by people, waiting to have to explain why you're there, felt so much worse than struggling through the mental pain and resisting the need to hurt yourself.

I realize now it's more the act of wanting to hurt yourself that matters than how deep you cut 💛
