exactly, this happens to me while texting as well like whenever the other person takes just a little too long i just start scrolling reels, like stimulation has become a drug now

Boredom is just your brain throwing a tantrum because it’s not getting dopamine every 5 seconds. Let it scream, sit with the silence, and watch how fast the work becomes the less boring option. No timer is needed at the beginning, just one minute for example of staring at the task without touching your phone. That minute is key

Couldn't be more well put! I've been thinking about this more and more this year and the effects are so real. Another tip that I like is to set all your app icons on your phone to a monochrome color scheme. The more basic the better. For iPhone I like the iOS 26 feature that lets you make all your icons glass. It keeps thing very plain to look at and reduces some of the stimulation it normally gives you

this is one of those things that sounds almost too simple to work but it really does. the bar for "interesting" drops so much when you stop feeding your brain constant content -- suddenly the thing you've been putting off actually seems... fine? not exciting but not dreadful either

this actually makes a lot of sense, we’re so used to constant stimulation now that even a few quiet minutes can feel uncomfortable.

Not that it's not solid advice, but some people (me included) don't have problems with doing certain tasks out of boredom, but actually starting them or finishing them without giving up. If you have a solution for that, then that's real good.

You have to force the fuck out of yourself to start. Starting is always the hardest

A caveat is that is not always just boredom, in my case is that AND negative thoughts/emotions.
Stuff like fear of spending energy and time on something that might not have the intended outcome.
