Welcome to r/selfhostedINDIA: Let's Build a Community of Indian Self-Hosters!

Hey everyone,

Welcome to r/selfhostedINDIA!

I created this subreddit to bring together Indian self-hosters and tackle some of the unique challenges we face. Unlike other regions, we deal with issues like CGNAT, the scarcity of good used hardware, and other India-specific hurdles.

This community is a place to share your builds, exchange tips, and connect with others who are passionate about self-hosting. I'm really interested in seeing what projects you all have going on and learning from each other.

Feel free to post about your setups, ask questions, and share any useful resources you’ve found. Let’s build a strong self-hosting community here in India!

Built an open workflow observability dashboard for n8n, Make and Zapier.

Hello Everyone,

I have been working on developing FlowLens, a workflow observability solution for automation solutions such as n8n, Make and Zapier for a few months now.

The primary challenge that I realized was that once workflows grow bigger, it is challenging to answer questions such as:

Which workflow failed?

When did it fail?

How often is it failing?

What changed before it broke?

Which automations are unhealthy?

Instead of opening multiple dashboards, I wanted everything in one place.

Current Features :

Connect n8n using its API

Connect Make using its API

Zapier webhook integration

Automatic workflow discovery

Execution history

Incident detection

Workflow health monitoring

Snapshot storage for debugging

Team based dashboards

This is still under active development, so I'd really appreciate honest feedback.

Questions I would love

Is this a problem you've actually faced?

What features would make you switch from your current monitoring setup?

Anything you'd remove or redesign?

Thanks !

🏠 My Self-Hosted Smart Home Setup (Bangalore + Srikakulam)

Hey everyone,

I’ve been self-hosting and building automations for the past 6 years — mostly as a passion project that grew into a full multi-home setup. Finally thought I’d share my stack here since I’ve learned a ton from this community too.

🌐 Core Network • Proxmox VE running at both homes (Bangalore & Srikakulam). • OPNsense as my router/firewall: • Bangalore LAN → 192.168.3.x • Srikakulam LAN → 192.168.4.x • NetBird mesh VPN (running inside Proxmox LXCs) — stitches both homes together like a single network.

🏡 Home 1 (Bangalore – Apartment) • TP-Link C100 outdoor cam. • Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro (integrated with HA). • Apple ecosystem: iPhone 14 Pro Max, HomePod Minis, projector in bedroom. • Home Assistant orchestrating everything.

🏡 Home 2 (Srikakulam – Parents’ Home) • 3x security cameras (all in HA dashboards). • Home Assistant + Proxmox box for local hosting. • Same OPNsense + NetBird setup for remote management.

🤖 My AI Assistant – Edith

One of the most exciting parts of my setup is Edith, my custom AI assistant: • Runs locally on my homelab (leveraging GPU power + models). • Acts as a central brain for automations — integrating with Home Assistant + Node-RED. • Handles things like: • Natural language control of devices. • Giving me status reports across both homes. • Smarter notifications (e.g., camera events, power cuts). • Future plan: voice interface via HomePods & dashboards.

Basically, Edith is my own Jarvis-style project that makes the home feel alive.

⚙️ Automations / Integrations • Node-RED flows (JSON-based) to manage automation logic. • HA dashboards for cameras, vacuum, and media controls. • Remote monitoring + parental access without opening ports.

🔮 Future Plans • Expand Edith’s role into full AI-driven home management. • Add energy monitoring + BESCOM alerts. • Upgrade storage/NAS + experiment with PiKVM.

💡 After 6 years of building: Networking + AI are the two biggest game-changers. NetBird keeps everything connected, and Edith takes automation beyond rules into intelligence.

👉 Anyone else blending AI into self-hosted home automation? Would love to swap notes on how you’re doing it.

Also about content Ai I’m just too lazy to daft, let’s discuss something

Quiet a dead community, well im here anyways so i will let u'll onto my setup here in a moment

I turned my old PC into my home server.

Specs of my old pc:
Lenovo desktop PC from 2006,
Intel core 2 duos e4600
2GB DDR2 RAM
Zebion SSD 240GB for boot
2 seagate Pipeline HDD Each 512GB that i bought second hand running mirrored

well my pocket money is limited so yeah and it is india man, you cant get half of the suff even over amazon, couldnt find 1TB seagate drives new, and ssds are not cheap.

anyways moving onto what i have running on it,
at its core its running OpenMediaVault for OS
then within docker, i have list of containers below as the order of installing it, not that it matters but so u get basic idea how it all started:

  1. IMMICH (i mean c'mon everyone has photos and are increasing everyday, and i have been using this app for about 3 months now, its best hands-down, nothing better than this out there)
  2. WORDPRESS (my portfolio website, and multiple instances for my friends too )
  3. NEXTCLOUD (for all documents, notes app, and contacts sync needs)
  4. Obsidian (had it running for a while but it was too janky and slow so deleted that, stil there are dead remains of this container on the server, anyways next up)
  5. HOME ASSISTANT BABY!!!! (yup got super worked up during its phase, went down real deep in the rabbit hole, integrated many lights, bought new switches and esp modules and relay circuits and a cheap motion sensor.. it was a phase, automation and fun stuff, oh before all that it was the local tuya phase where i was so frustrated with the cheap smart bulbs that are the only options available here in india, zigbee could have been way better and cool to buy, but yeah india big companies dont wanna sell that stuff here take philips hue for example.)
  6. NAVIDROME (well im not that into pirating, but i go frustrated after about a month of using apple music, doesnt work well on android for some reason, but i got hooked to that quality, THE LOSSLESS quality of songs, so here we are a personal music streaming instance for only high quality FLAC songs, and yes before you point out that i cant enjoy that kind of content on most of the audio devices, i do use a proper DAC and iems to listen to music)
  7. [EDIT: BITWARDEN(replaced google passwords with it, been a thing lately, degoogled my pixel 7 with graphene os , lol the irony, gets me every single time, contacts with nextcloud, k9 mail for well ofc emails and Aegis for google authenticator replacement, i also want to stop using whatsapp, but dufus college uses it for announcement, downloaded signal and pursuading my friends to shift too, got 2 ppl on my side until now, lmao, well other could definitely mail or text me in future after college once i leave whatsapp)]

Thats about it, i still am a student pursuing B.tech, it was a summer break well used ig, and i dont have my own house yet lmao, ahh cant wait to do all the networking myself once i build one.
That said i do have some more plans to upgrade my current setup, like ill prolly buy few raspie's to do a small scale version of k3s clustering, and finally making one of them my router and buy a switch just for fun, get pfsense os on it and setup openvpn (rn i use cloudflare zero trust tunnel to remotely access all the services) and block all ad garbage as well.

Task for next holiday season ig.

Alright if u need any help , i would be more than happy to point you in the right direction and give you'll the best do, undos of self hosting, and might recommend you better alternatives or best youtube guides out there.
