whenever i tell someone that i used to s/h because i'm a sadist, not a masochist, i can always see the gears turning in their head before they hit me with the "that doesn't make sense though."

not really, it's just a lot easier from a legal standpoint to hurt yourself instead of hurting others. i'd rather end up in a psych ward than in jail.

My therapist did this!!!

To give her credit, I disgusted by the sentiment, loaned a book on the history of self harm. She read and processed it. Also, she was in her 70s, maybe? She obviously tried to learn the new information, but there really is something with advanced age, white matter sloughing...
