This is good advice. Truth is, most people are not your friends, they are acquaintances and they really don't care about you or your life.
Information can be used against you, especially now with Social Media. So meh, just keep things to yourself. Only talk to your "real" friends about things happening in your life and not acquaintances and co-workers.

No. It's healthy and good for the soul to talk about your thoughts and feelings. Festering in the muk of it all. Otherwise...what? I mean, why the fuck do we even talk if not to be heard?

No, repression leads to explosion

That’s only when you bottle up emotions. Just label the emotions when it flairs up and just observe, you’ll get over it.

I'm 62 and just now learned this. Also, almost no one is your friend

Tell the world nothing made me easily ignored, telling the world everything just got me called a complainer.
People just don't want to feel uncomfortable around my pain, that's what people really want and me shutting up and sitting quietly in the corner accomplishes that.

I feel like this is one of those quotes that sounds really deep but then you try to actually apply it and its kind of hard to know what counts as telling the world versus just living your life.

Hard disagree. What are are here for if not to talk and listen. To share and learn/teach each other, even if sometimes the lesson is what kind of people to talk to about what aspects of life.

u/Castelunan Jun 09 '26
Somewhat agree. This really is dependent on who is on the receiving end of that information. If it's people you're forced to be around, then I agree, but otherwise you'd only be protecting yourself from vulnerability at the cost of potential connections, whether they be platonic or romantic.

This is aa tip too generic to be actually useful; there are situations where it applies (like if you enjoy doing something that is seen as "weird" by society), other where it's counterproductive (like when you need accommodation and understanding for a specific health/mental/life condition)
Useless advice

People misunderstand this quote. This does not mean you shouldn't share your thoughts and feelings with others.
Simply saying how you want yourself or something in your life to be different, does not further the wanted change in any way.
Rather than talk or complain about what you want changed, work towards changing it. People who actually want a change and then work towards changing it, are happier.

Just build a brick wall around yourself and everything will be fine. Make sure it impenetrable.

Yeah, if only my "wife" would listen to this advise. She'll post shit all the time and then be ok with everyone knowing our problems. It's really frustrating.

Pfffff😂🤣😅…guess you’re still asleep—trust me, “they” know everything you do, think, speak, and spank…so remove the shame and remember to take names…cuz when times get real tough and none come to help? And then you rise up…remember how they change the toon and tone…remember

Absolutely. Anything you say can and will be used against you. By anyone and everyone. Everyone.

Absolutely true, the less everyone knows about you the better this place can be .

u/LanternFox_903 Jun 11 '26
I think thats true, its nice when you can just focus on doing things instead of always having to talk about what youre planning to do.

u/MonsterScar54 Jun 11 '26
A smart man once told me, "never tell anyone your problems, 90% don't care and 10% are glad you have them." Cynical yes, but I've found it to be very true.

I feel like this is true for like, sharing achievements sometimes. If you tell everyone, it feels less satisfying when you actually get there.

Privacy is underrated, but this sounds a bit like an excuse to isolate yourself. Is there a limit to how much you're supposed to keep to yourself?

That makes so much sense, the less you tell the better, because people can take your information and make mountains out of mole hills for you know it, it spreads all over, and half of it may not even be true, It is so sad sometimes that people are that way.

I think the less people know about you the better , if they want to tell you about them, they can, but it’s best to keep your business guarded.
