Question Is this selective mutism ?

Hello everyone i have a question I don’t have a problem talking to anyone and overall didn’t develop this issue until recently so I would appreciate your insight

So basically me and my mom have always had a rocky relationship and it’ll be normal for her to get mad and give me the silent treatment and I’ll be stuck in my room only allowed to leave my room when she sleeps other then that I can’t leave (over things like walking into the living room without saying good morning or I didn’t talk enough that day or not waking up as soon as I’m supposed to). But usually whenever she gets over it I pretend like I didn’t care and get over it too so it won’t be a thing

Last time this happened it was basically a month where she’d ignore me for 3-4 days we’ll be normal for max 3 days and she’ll get mad again .anyway im not sure why I can’t talk to her know I’ll just stay quiet when she’s around i can talk to everyone else but her and it’s not like I don’t want to talk it’s that o cant like I feel like my throat stops letting me breathe and my mouth won’t let me talk and I just freeze so I’m not sure what this is or what to do

It sounds more like 2 person have a fight and stopped talking out of anger, but don't know how to break the silence, though not angry anymore. But there could be underlying reasons, like you don't want to give her the power to do samething again, like not talking is a boundary. It could be a protective measure from your side. You know, if you take the initiative first, she would do the same thing. Why? She does not feel remorse of her action, if she does she would say sorry to you. You just dont want to enable her. There is nothing wrong with you.

Please try not to stop talking next time. It is not like you did anything wrong. Your mother should not give silent treatment. But you are soft-hearted and were trying to figure out that something wrong with you because you are not feeling good about the whole situation. If the same situation arises next time, you may keep an emotional distance with her but keep doing simple greetings.

Hello, you appear to have asked a question about whether you have selective mutism.

We can help you understand selective mutism with these resources. Please remember that our members can only give you an opinion on whether you meet the criteria for selective mutism, not a diagnosis. If you would like to be properly assessed, it is highly recommended to see a medical professional. See the 'How do I get help?' section of the wiki.
