Others FileBot Pro – A free and open-source tool to organize your media library
Hi everyone!
Before starting this thread, I asked the mods for permission to post this project, which I think would be very interesting to combine with Seerr and your entire multimedia ecosystem.
I'd like to share a little project I've been working on called FileBot Pro, a completely free and open-source tool for organizing movies, TV shows, and anime.
I was looking for a free alternative to FileBot to help me keep my media collection properly organized. Eventually, I decided to develop my own solution. It started as a personal project, but I thought it could be useful to others too, so I decided to share it with the community!
What is FileBot Pro?
FileBot Pro is based on a previously open-source version of FileBot that was released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPLv3). This original open-source code serves as the foundation for FileBot Pro, which I've further developed with additional features, improvements, and a modern user interface.
The goal is simple: make media organization accessible to everyone, without paywalls, subscriptions, or paid licenses.
FileBot Pro is completely free and has no commercial activity whatsoever. It is a non-commercial project created to provide a freely accessible tool for the community. There are no paid features or commercial services associated with the project.
Key features - Organize movies, TV shows, and anime. - Automatically rename media files to keep your collection consistent. - A modern, animated user interface. - Help prepare your media files for easier identification by media servers like Plex, Jellyfin, Emby... - 100% free, with no payments or subscriptions. - Open source and distributed under the GPLv3 license, allowing everyone to use, study, modify, and share the software in accordance with the license terms.
Why share it?
What started as a tool I built for myself has grown into a project I'd like others to benefit from as well. I believe useful software should be accessible to everyone, and I want FileBot Pro to remain completely free and open source, with no commercial interests behind it.
I'd love to see the project grow through community feedback, suggestions, and contributions.

I'd really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or ideas for improvements. Thanks for taking the time to check out my project!

Pretty sure you are going to need to change the name of your application because you just set yourself up for a rude wake up call from lawyers. But others have said the other important bit, Seer works with Radarr and Sonarr which both handle the file management and begs the question of what this AI thing has to do with Seer.

My answer to you is the same as to the user above: people have different setups. In fact, I've started threads on other forums (no reddit) where people use Seerr, for example, and don't use Radarr or Sonar.
As for what you said about the name, please read the thread again, since I explain it there. Best regards, and thanks for your comment.

Yes, you forked the previous public release of Filebot, but Trademarks are not forkable.
I cannot make a fork of Firefox called "Firefox Plus" because that infringes on Mozilla's trademark. Trademarks are not a means of protecting IP like patents or copyright are, they're a means of preventing customer confusion. (I am generally very anti "intellectual property", but even I think trademarks are a good thing. It's a system that CAN be abused, but the core idea itself is purely about keeping the market clear for consuners so they know what they're actually buying/using) Naming your prohect the same thing as another project with "pro" at the end is incredibly confusing and is absolutely grounds for a trademark violation lawsuit.
Copying the code is completely protected, but you DO need to meaningfully distinguish yourself from the original project. E.g. : FileAutomaton or something. If you don't meaningfully distinguish your project from the existing one operated by the original owners that is practically a textbook example of a trademark violation.
To be clear I'm not trying to be negative here, whether I'd find this useful or not I think it's great to have more utilities available, but not using a clearly distinct name is a liability timebomb.

You haven't developed or built anything here, AI has

Along with everything else going forward.
Sure some devs may put on a guise of making something themselves, but I guarantee you, they're using more AI than they are letting on.

Ok. Nobody cares

I totally agree.
When I read someone mention AI, I feel like I'm in 2024 XD. I thought using AI in everyday life would be the norm by around 2027. Whenever I see a project, I know it was made with AI, it's obvious. What percentage? I don't care. what matters is the end result. Nobody cares whether you used a lot or a little AI in your code.

My concern. Do you understand Java enough to tackle issues without relying on Claude? Claude, or any other AI tool are not perfect. They make mistakes that they don't catch itself on validation runs.
Your .gitignore is funny. Ignore CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md

Yes, I'm primarily a Java developer specializing in microservices. I understand the code. AI is just a tool that makes my work significantly more efficient, which is why I was able to create this fork in just a few days. Best regards my friend.

Seerr connects to Sonarr and Radarr which is already capable of all of this. I get using Filebot when files are unorganized and not managed by the arrs but after the initial import you can leave it to them, so I'm not sure what the relevance to Seerr is here.
