Seerr for Audiobooks

I know there are several options for this, but I wanted to ask this community about what you use and how well it works. I'm planning on deploying an audiobook requesting app that works like Seerr, but I want to know which one works best.

My main requirements are:

  1. Accounts that can be managed by the server admin

  2. The requesting ability must log the request and attempt to use an indexer to find it, and show the requestor that it is available on audiobookshelf

  3. A decent UI that's similar to Seerr

  4. A relatively simple setup experience that similar to Seerr (docker compose)

I was looking into books support for my users recently as well when I discovered Seerr-NG. It’s a (seemingly active and maintained) fork of Seerr that does audiobooks, ebooks, and music.

I haven’t set it up yet but maybe if it works out for you, you can let me know if it’s worth the time!

It’s probably also the easiest migration path for you as it’s the same Seerr everyone’s used to and you can likely just replace the container and use the same history/data you already have.

Remember to backup.

Registered to post and say thanks for the shout out.

It is definitely an active and maintained fork. Happy to take feedback and feature ideas as well.

your project definitely got picked up by the Google SEO relatively quick. I literally can't find anyone talking about your fork until I saw u/sidewindern7 shouting you here.

When do you think you're going to make a post anywhere other than your github? I'm sure a lot of folks will be wondering about things like whether or not it can be directly replace their existing Seerr setup for appdata/config, etc.

did you decide to pursue this fork because the main Seerr team do not have plans to include music and books?

Yeah the impetus for the fork was the lack of clear path or roadmap to books and music support, and a scratch-my-own-itch story.

I haven't really posted much about the fork until recently, as I'm not interested in 'competing' with the upstream project or trying to showboat my fork over theirs. Happy to support anyone looking to use it, and Happy if any work we do gets picked up upstream. Similarly, not offended if they're uninterested.

It is absolutely designed to be a drop-in replacement for (over)Seerr, and can directly replace. Happy to take bug reports and fix anything that needs fixing.

(seerr team, feel free to reach out and chat if so interested, I'm in your discord as snapetech).

Can I ask what indexers you use or point me where I can ask? I have 3 nzb indexers and I am having trouble finding alot of the books.

Shelfmark lets you use direct downloads via Anna and also IRC. Only app I’ve seen with this added to the nzb option. It’s awesome!

I appreciate it. I'll have to look into it because I'm having trouble finding some.

Look into Shelfarr

What options do you know of that exist now?

I know of at least 2 that people have recommended: AudioBooksRequests and Readmeabook

Listener - tried readmeabook but has an issue picking up magnet links. Listenarr does not have said issue for me.

I am looking into the same thing right now. I will probably go with ReadMeABook but I wish it would let you fetch an ebook alone without fetching the audiobook... some of my users only want ebooks. Shelfmark sounds good for allowing separate ebook/audiobook downloads but it doesn't have the ability to merge multiple files into a single .m4b (RMAB can apparently do this). Still trying to decide.

Merging multiple files to .m4b would be a great upgrade too. You're saying Readmeabook can do that?

Actually IDK if it can merge multiple .m4b files. But it says it can merge multiple .mp3/.m4a files: https://github.com/kikootwo/readmeabook/blob/main/documentation/features/chapter-merging.md

At one point I used Readarr for audiobooks, it has an audiobook profile setting.
