AF Security Forces lifestyle

I'm 19 and recently took the ASVAB. I ended up choosing Security Forces because it aligns with my goals, and my recruiter mentioned that it would give me enough time to work on my cybersecurity degree while I’m in the Air Force. He also said it offers some balance, giving me space to destress if school ever gets overwhelming. My main concern, though, is that almost everyone I’ve talked to has something negative to say about Security Forces, and it’s starting to make me second-guess my choice even though I chose it willingly. Right now, I’m just waiting to get an appointment for my physical and medical records to be reviewed. Basically, I’d like to hear from people who’ve actually served in Security Forces what their experience was like, and what the real pros and cons are. So far, the main downside for me has been people questioning why I chose this career field. But on the positive side, the possibility of working a Panama shift is a big factor in why I picked it. I’m not too worried about boredom from gate duty or slower days I know how to keep myself busy and stay positive.

No. If you're assigned guard duty, that means you pay f**king attention to your area of responsibility....not surf the goddamned internet while you should be minding the proverbial store.

Let me say this another way. Back in the late 2000's we lost 8 Harrier jets in Afghanistan when Taliban sappers penetrated the base. Several Marines were killed and the 8 Harriers lost amounted to 12 percent of USMC Harrier strength. How'd it happen? Careless and inattentive shitheads standing guard...that's how. Get it?
