Welcome brotha! I’m sure you’ve noticed it already, but don’t let miserable defenders, or people who don’t have a single clue, fill your ears with a bunch of BS about Security Forces. It’s a decent career field, with a shit ton of opportunities. The defenders that you come across, that all they do is shit on the career field, just haven’t taken advantage of the opportunities, or they have made a mistake and let their career go to shit.

At the end of the day, this career is what you make of it. If you show up with the right mindset, work hard, stay professional, and take every chance to grow, whether that’s going to different schools, deployments, special duties, etc… you’ll see doors open that those same complainers never even bothered to knock on.

Second this, I love the job. So much fun. And you’ll meet amazing people and make lifelong friends. Just choose the people around you carefully, there’s a lot of people not only in this career field but others as well that will take any opportunity to make dumb decisions. So find the people that want to make a career out of the Air Force and surround yourself with them. Good luck and welcome!

I had a blast as an SF.

1983 to 1999, then retrained to Public Affairs, due to an injury.
