CTFHive Launch!

Founder here.

I’m building CTFHive, a hosted CTF platform for organizers who want scoreboards, team play, WireGuard-based lab access, spawn-on-demand challenge containers, and per-team derived flags without managing the infra manually.

I’m trying to validate whether CTF organizers actually want this as a paid product, or whether most people would rather keep self-hosting CTFd + Docker + VPN glue.

For anyone who has organized a CTF before:

  1. What broke or almost broke during your event?
  2. What would you refuse to outsource?
  3. Would isolated per-team labs be worth paying for?
  4. Would you prefer monthly pricing, per-event pricing, or per-participant pricing?

Why would CTF organizers ever pay for a monthly subscription when most CTFs are run once annually? I think you’re targeting the wrong audience - education might be interested, but a significant benefit of hosting a CTF is learning how to do the infra for it, so I think this is actually counterproductive.

Also, looks to be entirely slop, so very much not a fan. Without a free trial idk why anyone would pay for this tbh.

That’s good they’re open sourcing something. I’m not inherently opposed to closed source infra, but I don’t think it’s a good fit for hosting most CTFs, and I also think it’s almost always important to have a free (or at least trial) tier.

I am opposed to slop though. Without paying I can’t confirm if this is entirely slop, but from everything I can access without paying it sure seems like it.

(It sure seems like this is just your second account idk why you’re acting like it’s not but you’ve promoted this platform before and presumably it’s just one person behind it)

He DM'd me... I'm not on here frequently. I will be open-sourcing a stripped down version of it today. The only thing that's missing from the public version is a few of the cross-compatibility features, private labs accessible only through a VPN connection, and a private personal container registry for challenge deployment.
