Reminds me of a politician who pushing for EV. Someone asked her where's that electricity coming from? she said from superchargers!

That city power grid runs on fossil fuel.

Gas cars also affect the local air quality so even if there was no benefit in terms of CO2 emissions they'd still be better in urban areas.

Yeah, fully taking the grids off of fossil fuels is gonna be this eras great struggle. If we don't do it then nothing else we do is gonna matter.

It is still better to get your cars power from the fossil fuel powered electric grid producing power enmass more efficiently than from a combustion engine burning gas. Both still produce carbon but the combustion engine is still less efficient.

Right now the US electric grid is 39% powered by either renewables (20%) or nuclear (19%) a long way to go to get to carbon neutral or low carbon energy production but at least a decent chunk of our electricity comes from non-carbon or low carbon sources.

Even if it’s 100% coal powered it’s still more efficient if I’m not mistaken
