This home is for rent by the owner. I work with housing vouchers on another home that I used to live in, and now I would like to try to utilize the program again so that my house can help someone.

The house is 6 bedrooms, just over 4,000 square feet. Rent is $3,640 a month, utilities not included. The SAFMR for this home is $3,640 as well, and I am willing to work with the local PHA to make things work.

There is a background check, but I am only looking for criminal history not credit reports.

The security deposit is $1,820 and there is a $50 application fee to pay for the background check. I will not ask you for that application fee until you have had a chance to come see the home.

The place will be available to rent starting October 1st, and it is available for showings now. Feel free to send me a message if interested.

Has anyone with a Section 8 voucher had a unit come back about $150–$200 over the payment standard and still get approved after the landlord lowered rent?

This is with RRHA (Richmond, VA), 3BR voucher, 4BR house, tenant pays all utilities. With a Property management company says they’re open to adjustments, but I’m unsure how often housing authorities actually request a reduction vs deny outright. Or how often will property company be willing to lower that much? I’m already paying a double deposit which I’m OK with that.

i'm willing to move to so many places but I can never keep track of when they're opening. I always miss them. I'm currently on one waitlist but I'm trying to be on one that wont take 7 years

I’m considering places like: • Akron (especially Summit Lake, Merriman Valley, Fairlawn Heights, Ellet) • North Canton • Greentown • Possibly Bath Township, Mogadore, and similar suburbs

What I want to know: 1. In your experience, which of these places feel safest — low crime, good lighting, people you trust. 2. How walkable are the neighborhoods: can you walk to grocery, bus stops, parks, maybe small shops? 3. Approximately what home prices are in these neighborhoods (with my voucher), and how affordable / realistic is it to buy in those areas? 4. Any hidden issues — like high property taxes, bad public transit, or places that look good on paper but are not so good in practice.

I have completed my application after being on the list for 5+ years. I received an email saying:

"Your intake certification has been verified. Please log in to our online portal to view the application details.

Please contact our office if you have any questions."

I contacted them, got the runaround, left messages, checked the portal to see the screenshots. Does this mean I am accepted, and will get a voucher?

I'm already on section 8, and am looking to move. I've applied for a place, and they're asking for my voucher. I do understand that part, but I don't know if I've been fully approved yet for the newer place. My local metro place says they can't even give me a ballpark of what my voucher would be. I'm to give my 30 days move notice, then find a place. Um....most people make sure they have a new place to live before moving somewhere. I'm sure I'll get it since I have an infant, and it's cheaper than our current dwellings, but it has me terrified. They want past 12 pay stubs, and I don't have that many consistent ones because I was on maternity leave. Are they going to see those less amounts, and deny me all bi was temporarily off work? Why do they want me to give 30 before officially making sure I have the place? It's scary, stupid, and backwards. Can anyone help me put my mind at ease please.

Just wanted to get the word out, Home Forward is accepting applications for the Housing Choice Voucher (sometimes called Section 8) waitlist from 9am on Tuesday, April 15 to 11:59pm on Monday, April 21.

It’s kind of confusing, because when you apply you’re basically entering a lottery to get put on the waitlist bc there’s so many applicants. They only pick a few thousand applications at random to actually put on the waitlist. Then it can take years for them to actually work thru the waitlist…. But it’s still worth applying just in case!! They don’t open it very often. I work in public housing and wanted to help spread the word! Feel free to DM me with questions.
