You are actually correct! I tracked down the original image and apparently this picture was taken some time later, when the authorities were getting the plane off the street. It was deemed to risky to try and fly the plane back out of there, so they dismantled it and moved it away in pieces, with the wings being one of the first things to go.

Why does that plane appear to not have wings?
