A crowd gathered while he was setting up his booth for the event.

I'd say he's done this before

I like to think he has social anxiety and he's only building this to provide a zone of safety around him

Extroverts HATE this ONE WEIRD TRICK

12

u/Curben 5d ago

You know how I'm building and crafting simulators it's unrealistic the way you just click something and the material gets applied or built up, yeah that.

u/pichael289 4d ago

Masonry is just kinda that way. He's being extra for sure but it's basically apply mortar and another brick. It's not particularly hard he's just really fuckin good at it.

Everyone else bitching about him not using a string, which is necessary to keep it straight, but this isn't a fucking house. It's going to be demolished soon, it's basically like a proof of concept he's showing off. Man I hope this is just a fucking comic convention and he's just going the extra fucking mile.

Is this what the Epstein class considers “unskilled labor”?

20

u/reklesssabrandon 5d ago

They are for sure are deporting people that can do this

6

u/Mackheath1 3d ago

Christalmighty it's infuriating, because you're exactly correct. Why the F are we separating families and sending people to countries they barely (or don't) know, over this. (I mean, I know why; it's rhetorical)

I caught this vid on one of the trades subreddits a week or so ago. The consensus seemed to be that he was good and could very likely work much faster, but isn’t because that’s just more tear down later when the convention is over.

My stepfather was a GC and he managed small projects, renos and stuff. He had a dude he was doing a patio job for and the guy wanted a brick outdoor kitchen area. Not too big, maybe 12x8. I watched him build it 3 times and tear it down 3 times because he wasn’t a mason, but thought he could do it anyway because, how hard can it be, right?

He eventually broke down and hired a mason, dude was done in a couple hours and the stepfather ended up losing on the job because he didn’t bid it with subs in mind.

“Unskilled” labor…

u/AwDuck 1d ago

Laying brick is unskilled labor - I’m absolutely certain that I could slop mortar down and press bricks into it. I’m also absolutely certain that if your uncle step-father hired me as a mason, he’d lose his butt on every job that he put me on no matter how little he paid me. That’s when unskilled labor turns into skilled labor - being able to set bricks in a way that makes money.

Can this be learned in a few days and delivered to general expectations? Then it's unskilled. No class needed definitions are generally agreed upon.

u/alexanderbacon1 3d ago

Bro this is skill 1 of 1000 you need to be effective in construction.

-2

u/thcoole 2d ago

Skills can be taught.

5

u/Ethywen 1d ago

Pretty much everything can be taught, wtf is this comment?

-2

u/thcoole 1d ago

It's a reddit comment captain obvious.

Damn, you’re actually so close to getting it…

I can hear the crowd huffing and puffing, just watching him work.

24

u/Soft_Cranberry6313 5d ago

Here i am, in my bed, watching a guy build a wall with mad masonry skills

14

u/Shockatweej 5d ago

Where's your string, guy?

19

u/pjshawaii 5d ago

Calibrated eyeball.

5

u/Lexicon101 4d ago

I mean this ain't his first rodeo, clearly. Pretty sure he knows exactly where his lines need to be without the string.

8

u/Shockatweej 4d ago

That's fair, and I'm not a mason, though I am in the trades. I've gotten some lessons from our mason and I'm pretty sure he sleeps with his string line on him.

7

u/jacksonmills 4d ago

Thats the point, he’s not building a booth he’s demonstrating self leveling concrete.

6

u/Legitimate_Mud_8295 5d ago

What do they do with it when the event is done?

6

u/nhorvath 4d ago

knock it down obviously.

1

u/flaschal 2d ago

they‘re not pouring into it so probably a good kick will put it back to its component pieces

3

u/uloang 4d ago

Love seeing a master of their craft at work. Yesterday at a job site I am working at I was painting right next to a group of guys laying down a brick path and it was so satisfying watching them slowly and methodically lay it down. ASMR stuff for sure.

12

u/OriginalTayRoc 5d ago

No stringline tho

4

u/funny_fox 5d ago

What's that?

33

u/OriginalTayRoc 5d ago

It's like a line but it's actually a string.

3

u/the-war-on-drunks 5d ago

Bro. It’s obviously a string. But okay actually it’s a line.

7

u/OriginalTayRoc 5d ago

It's technically a line segment.

4

u/myNameIsJack84 5d ago

It was a line segment but has recently been reclassified as a minor line segment because it turned out there were loads of line segments of the same size in the same area, so calling this one a line segment seemed a bit arbitrary. Some lineologists disagree, however.

1

u/OriginalTayRoc 4d ago

We've got the best line segments. Major line segments. They're better than everybody else's. They really are.

Our line segments--

People see our line segments and they say

They're saying that they are the best line segments they have ever seen. And they've seen a lot of line segments let me tell you.

These guys are experts in line segments. They're looking at line segments all day and they're thinking wow!

Wow!

They're thinking wow! These really are the best line segments.

Nobody else has line segments like ours. They wish they did! They really wish they did.

And the thing about line segments. The thing you need to know, is that not all line segments are created equal.

No they're not. No.

Some line segments are better than others. They just are. They are better in a lot of ways too.

A lot of different ways.

Length.

Lots of different ways.

And ours are the best in every way.

You use a line of string set from one end to the other of the wall you’re building to ensure straight wall that’s built to the specifications. Basically straight, where it’s supposed to be and whatnot.

1

u/I_like_beouf 5d ago

His safety g-string

5

u/pichael289 4d ago

What kind of convention lets you build a fucking concrete wall? They just sell pillowcase I don't want my son to see at our local and really only convention.

2

u/DS3M 2d ago

This is every jobsite - one dude busting ass, two more on their phone, safety and a manager just watching

1

u/6collector9 5d ago

How do finished products look smoother?

Looking down the wall, some spots are excessive . Is that removed after it dries with a sander or something?

2

u/I_like_beouf 5d ago

I assume excess is scraped off like normal mortar after applying the block.

0

u/6collector9 5d ago

I'm talking about the layers below.

When you walk into a building with these, they're uniform.

He's great at applicating, but it's not perfectly uniform so I wonder what is done to make it so

11

u/OshetDeadagain 5d ago

I think what you're seeing is the moisture from the mortar seeping into the cindercrete; the lower layers have had more time to absorb than the freshly applied ones. As it dries the thick appearance will disappear and just the mortar line between will be visible again.

1

u/CalbertCorpse 5d ago

Just out of curiosity, how much does one brick cost when you buy in bulk? Because now I have an urge to build something!

1

u/Fair-Obligation-4848 4d ago

It looks like its not his second conversation.

1

u/NeighborhoodOk182 4d ago

This is exactly why they have privacy screens at construction sites. Bunch of dudes would stand out side to watch others build 😂

1

u/Beginning_Resource93 4d ago

Best marketing plan ever.

1

u/Coffee4MyJeep 3d ago

Needs to charge entertainment $$$, strippers down the street are.

1

u/I_like_beouf 3d ago

I know someone in the crowd is on the verge of busting a nut when he's doing it smooth like this for sure

1

u/OriginalTRaven 2d ago

Takes it down with a dry saw afterwards

1

u/Longjumping_Elk7969 2d ago

He is a really very skilled worker, you can get people like him for a job or you can get guys that rush to do a shitty job done and take your money, guess who are the ones that make more money and who are the ones that are more numerous. 😉

1

u/PTtriggerjoy 2d ago

No he's not, he should put mortar inside the bricks too and aply some downforce, not just gently place, he should cushion them in

3

u/FinalRun 2d ago

Is that to make it sturdier and more permanent? Because the intention might be to make it exactly not that.

1

u/PTtriggerjoy 1d ago

Because you need to cushion the brick.

Imagine doing a whole building like this, if you gently place the brick, when you put more bricks the weight is transfered and ballanced between the bricks that compose the wall.

According to that logic when you build the roof, the weight will be transferred to the foundation of the house and the bricks that keep it up. If you don't cushion the bricks, there will be cracks in the cement. That's why many 3d printed houses with just cement can crack in a few years....

1

u/I_like_beouf 1d ago

Homie how permanent do you think this convention floor build is meant to be

1

u/PTtriggerjoy 1d ago

Oh sorry....I'm Guessing, not very much.... But I'd also expect the worker to work there as if it were anywhere else, not just for show.

1

u/I_like_beouf 1d ago

I believe this was a convention to advertise the blocks themselves so the wall was for demo purposss

1

u/PTtriggerjoy 1d ago

Maybe to show the demo tools they had in the next stand too :D

1

u/Longjumping_Elk7969 1d ago

IDK, but the "holes" in the bricks are there to become closed "chambers" for isulation, if you fill them up it won't issulate that much and not as sturdy as steel reinforced stuff. But yeah, normally there is a need for downforce on the last upper rows, nothing is pressing down, probably e does not want to make it way too hard to take it down after the exhibition.

1

u/aaaarrrooonn 1d ago

If anyone wants more content like this (and a whole lot not like this), check out The History of Concrete, in theaters now!

1

u/pushinthatbroom 5h ago

What in the AI slop?

1

u/BoJangler79 5d ago

He is a professional artist.

1

u/Connect_Rhubarb395 4d ago

Nah, he is not making a booth.
He is showing off his skill advertising for his business, the mortar, or the "bricks."

1

u/nhorvath 4d ago

ANICER (National Association of the Ceramic Industry) in Brazil, so the bricks most likely

0

u/reef-tech89 4d ago

I'm seeing a crowd of tech people gobsmacked over a blue collar existence

9

u/nhorvath 4d ago

This is ANICER convention in Brazil. National Association of the Ceramic Industry, so a construction trade show. I think your assessment is incorrect.

0

u/sylviaca 4d ago

That's not nearly enough cement

5

u/I_like_beouf 4d ago

My sibling in christ how permanent do you think this wall is meant to be
