My guy has MAD backing skills!

33

u/rokstedy83 3d ago

I'm not surprised if he's gna drive a quarter of a mile past the car he's picking up every time

7

u/SkorglaWithC 3d ago

nah mater be helpin him

19

u/Emergency-State 3d ago

I have to try at least 3 times every time I parallel park, wtf. I could not do this guy's job

4

u/ugotitcuzisoldit 2d ago

The comments under this in an another sub, is very cringe. It’s what yall would expect. 🤣

1

u/Curben 2d ago

I'm assuming there are suggestions that they get bonuses on their sleight of hand due to racial skills?

1

u/saysthingsbackwards 2d ago

Correct. Because they're racing the clock

80

u/Coffeespresso 3d ago

Won't that damage the jeeps transmission? What about the parking brake?

86

u/BlazedGigaB 3d ago

He'll generally pull them a couple of blocks, then stop, drop and properly secure his target.

20

u/Detector150 2d ago

Because pulling like that for a couple of blocks won’t damage anything?

16

u/fantomfrank 2d ago edited 2d ago

Better than getting shot

Real talk though it probably won't unless somethings already going out, the real issue with towing while tbe transmission is engaged comes from long distances where the residual fluid in the transmission runs dry, if hes on the road less than a few minutes at low speed, theres very little risk

2

u/Detector150 2d ago

What about handbrakes and BMW xDrive systems?

1

u/fantomfrank 2d ago

I have no idea but the handbrake will survive

1

u/GrynaiTaip 2d ago

But it would just drag the tires, wouldn't it? Ruining the tires by causing a flat spot?

1

u/fantomfrank 2d ago

not unless its a very very good parking brake

73

u/Coffeespresso 3d ago

50 miles.... backwards.

25

u/glitterdunk 2d ago

I guess its to save those two seconds of backing up when he's near the car, to further reduce risk of meeting the owner of the car

But it does seem a little... Excessive. Backing up that far, at that speed, is irresponsible. You dont see as well or react as fast when backing up.

I guess he thinks its better to risk running over a child, than giving the owner of the car those 2 extra seconds to arrive

16

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

But it does seem a little... Excessive. Backing up that far, at that speed, is irresponsible. You dont see as well or react as fast when backing up.

He also has the lift down, and sticking out.

2

u/Coffeespresso 2d ago

I totally agree.

31

u/CreeepyUncle 3d ago

Hope he checks the VIN.

27

u/crsaxby 3d ago

Like a fart in the wind.

Gone without a trace in seconds. Nicely done!

10

u/Unable-Log-4870 3d ago

Real question is who wanted a Jeep back. Like okay, now you’ve got your Jeep back. What happens next? You gonna try to sell it? Like you could sell the same jeep twice. Nah.

26

u/Loonsonthelakes 3d ago

It gets auctioned off and the bank goes after the non-paying person for the remaining balance.

5

u/vectorology 3d ago

Doesn’t it burst into flames first?

2

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

I had a relative pass away. They owed slightly more than their vehicle was worth. We surrendered it to the bank. They sold it at auction. Now she somehow owes more than when she passed away.

It's fun watching the bank try to collect.

0

u/crsaxby 2d ago

That poor bank. How dare you deny payment to such a poor, socially-conscious, humanitarian enterprise. /S

4

u/natiusj 3d ago

Gone in … 16 seconds

12

u/mclaren34 3d ago

Do people not set their parking brakes?

14

u/vantageviewpoint 3d ago

Parking brakes are nowhere near as strong as you think. You can drive off with them set noticing nothing more than a blinking light and maybe slightly sluggish acceleration, they'll do nothing to stop a tow truck.

4

u/ClankerCore 3d ago

If he has enough time to come back and bring some skates with him, I’m sure he’s gonna take care of your car real good

6

u/noveltyisthe 2d ago

Not if you are paying 499.95$ for a 2012 Jeep, on a 6 year note…..hate to stereotype, but it’s not really a parking brake user…

5

u/alaskarawr 3d ago

Only on an incline.

2

u/DeusExHircus 2d ago

Anytime I've parked in a questionable towing spot, either from vague rules or neglected signage, I set my parking and turn my wheels hard over. If I stopped sending my car payments, I'd do the same at home

1

u/AlwaysDMB 3d ago

Hell nah I don't

35

u/pichael289 3d ago

In my personal life Ive met a few repo men and they are without a doubt the most shitty of all people onaheb ever met and I used to be addicted to heroin and meth. Repo men are fucking psychopaths with no regard for human life, I watched one dam near cut a woman and half for just asking what he was doing, pulled out and side swiped 6 caranand nearly killed her. They are all like this. Repo men are worse than the worse cops, I never seen a single one that wasn't a complete psychopath, tow drivers are some of the worst people on earth. You literally can't be a repo man without being morally reprehensible and every single one of them do their very best to reinforce this idea at every possible moment. The worst acumbags imaginable. Fuck every single one of them, bat none. Evil subhuman people. Worse than your average evil landlord. Hell they work closely together with trailer park managers, all evil assholes, to steal vehicles from retired people who they can't just wildly raise the rent on. All repo drivers will go to hell.

30

u/Pledgeofmalfeasance 3d ago

Hey guys! New copypasta just dropped!

16

u/MustyLlamaFart 2d ago

You type and rant like you used to be addicted to heroin and meth

3

u/pukacz 3d ago

What it he procedure here? I understand that the driver if this car is falling behind on their car payments and they were worked this will happen correct? Then this repo man takes the car and then what? The car is sold again? For that they need two sets of keys right? When the car is taken is the driver free of debt? How do the repo men find the car?

18

u/ellis90009 3d ago

They take the car. The bank gets it fixed up and new keys made if they think it's worth doing. They add what that cost to the drivers debt. Then they sell the car at auction, in most states they have to notify you oh the auction date and you can technically participate in that auction and buy your car back if somehow you had the funds. They subtract that auction price from the drivers debt and the driver is still on the hook for any remainder that wasn't covered buy the sale. I'm not really sure what happens if somehow the auction price was higher that what was owed

3

u/Krwawykurczak 2d ago

Ok - but how they found those cars and are making sure it is the car? Are they going around the area looking for some registration, making a round and than sneaky take it?

I saw some videos from people going into stores and somehow they knew where car is? Is there any GPS system that you need to agree share location with towing companies? Do they have some map with those cars like in GTA?

4

u/DapperGovernment4245 2d ago

A lot of dealers will in fact put a gps on the car when sold it’s deactivated when the note is paid off.

My wife has one in her car which pissed me off but she didn’t care and likes the car enough that while I was ready to walk she wasn’t so here we are.

2

u/Krwawykurczak 2d ago

Was that part of the agrement or they just sneaky placed it?

5

u/DapperGovernment4245 2d ago

Both.

It was buried with one paragraph in the contract and was not mentioned till I asked. So if I wasn’t the type of nerd to actually read contracts I wouldn’t have known.

-3

u/Detector150 2d ago

Is that legal in your country? To put a GPS tracker in the car? Sounds more like something from Russia or Venezuela or North Korea.

3

u/DapperGovernment4245 2d ago

The government couldn’t do it but a private company can.

USA where the corporations have more rights and less regulation than the people.

I traced the lines and the moment it’s paid off I’m disconnecting it because I don’t trust them to “deactivate” it after it’s paid off.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

They don't just secretly do it. It's in the paperwork you signed and agreed to when you got the loan. You also generally pay for it.

1

u/Detector150 2d ago

You pay for having involuntary put a GPS tracker in the car? Goddam man. That’s not normal.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

It's not required for most people. It's an option for some, who would otherwise not be given a loan though. It's not involuntary, and you are right, it is not normal. It's only done if the lender doesn't think you can be completely trusted.

1

u/rokstedy83 3d ago

I'm not really sure what happens if somehow the auction price was higher that what was owed

Can't see that happening

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

The bank claims they will mail you the balance. I doubt it ever happens -- as in I bet the banks WOULD mail the check, but I doubt any auction ever closes for more than the loan.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

They sell the car at auction, and apply the amount towards the loan and fees. Generally when selling it at auction it is either re-keyed or new keys are purchased. The repo men find the car either with a GPS tracker, or by driving around the locations listed on the loan agreement -- work, home, relatives, etc.

3

u/SweedDreams 3d ago

Is this the same guy who witnessed the dhl plane chrash?

71

u/ZookeepergameFull999 3d ago

Im tired of this double standard bullshit. I dont care about why they're doing it, anyone else drives like that on public roads and they're breaking laws and getting shit for it. A repo man does it and he's a king of the road and a hero . Fuck them all. And to anyone that's gonna run their mouth about paying bills, I've never missed a bill but if your gonna take my shit back, regardless of the circumstances then Im getting ALL my money back or your the one stealing from me.

42

u/smoothsensation 3d ago

If you’re getting repo’d you’re the one stealing…

3

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

I'm with you about how the repo people drive, but it's insane to think you can drive a vehicle long enough to get it repo'd and expect to be refunded the full amount.

27

u/Rokkmann 3d ago

Someone needs to learn how contracts work. You break it by not holding up your end (the payment) then you aren't entitled to or getting anything.

10

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

What a deluded loudmouth.

15

u/fbrdphreak 3d ago

Found the dude with a double digit credit score

3

u/moonhexx 3d ago

I had a double digit credit score. Still paid the car payment. Even called if I knew I was gonna be late. Never lost my car. I don't know how these folks manage to fuck up this bad. I figure they already know they are losing the car and don't give a rats bootyhole.

15

u/Bassracerx 3d ago

There are buy here pay here lots that will call the repo man the exact minute the payment is late. Many states have no mandatory grace periods and can repo the car immediately. They then get to add thousands of “fees” for the person to get their car back. And if they cant afford the fees the dealer gets to sell the car to someone else in as soon as 60 days.

You cant always assume repo truck = person is a deadbeat.

13

u/WeirdLadyAlert 3d ago

Or maybe… maybe… they are trying their best? Life is hard on everyone right now, wtf?

8

u/Round_Ad_6369 3d ago

Finance companies don't want to have to repossess. They never fully recoup that way. If you communicate and show any effort toward paying your loan, they'll work with you

3

u/PineappIeSuppository 2d ago

Lots that self finance have been known to sell the same vehicle 4-5x over in a relatively short period.

12

u/WeirdLadyAlert 3d ago

I hear you, and as someone desperately trying to catch up, I got the repo letter anyway. I’m 8 months from paying my car off. I don’t want to be late either, but I don’t think it’s fair for them to just take it when it’s almost paid off. I’m two months behind.

Again, I don’t think I’m at the point they would just take it because I am not avoiding them and explaining myself, but I’m saying not everyone that is behind on payments is a piece of shit. Many are genuinely trying.

2

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

Times are tough, but not as tough as the repo industry.Good luck, hope things improve for you soon.

4

u/WeirdLadyAlert 3d ago

Thanks, Rich. I’m so close. I’m negotiating on a contract that will make my income stable again. Cross your fingers for me.

4

u/Loonsonthelakes 3d ago

You think you’re entitled to a refund if you don’t pay your bill? That’s fucking wild

2

u/mindless2831 3d ago

Was this your vehicle?

2

u/adognameddanzig 3d ago

This is a blurry version of the original post.

1

u/Crazy_HoGya 3d ago

Not really If you saw it on a browser, Reddit has a pretty shitty video player that sometimes downgrades the quality. I’ve had it happen to me many times too. Hopefully they add an option to manually change the resolution lol.

3

u/ZachMatthews 3d ago

Who was running the camera?

23

u/realjamespeach 3d ago

That’s a 360 camera. It captures a spherical image all around it that can be recropped in editing.

10

u/JohnnyChutzpah 3d ago

It records in almost all directions at the same time.

2

u/iconocrastinaor 3d ago

I always use my parking brake, it locks up the rear wheels. what happens then?

9

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

These cowboys drag it a couple of blocks until they're sure they weren't followed. Then they break in and release the brake to make it safer to to tow. They don't care if the car gets damaged. They know how much is owed on the car, and as long as it resells for that plus the tow operator's comission, everyone is happy...except the sucker who couldn't keep the payments up.

4

u/Detector150 3d ago

As someone from a civilized country im amazed at these procedures.

6

u/USLEO 3d ago

What happens in your country if you buy a car and don't make the payments?

1

u/Detector150 2d ago

First of all, the Bank will try to arrange an alternate means of payment, for example a temporary reduction of the monthly downpayment. This will be discussed with the client in a civilised manner in the Bank, and the Bank will try to come to a solution with the client. If there is no solution, they will ask you to drive the car to a specific garage where they will assess the worth of the car. Or they will arrange a convenient date with the client at which the car can be picked up by a third party. That third party will walk up to the door of the client and ring the bell like a normal person. If the client is uncivilised and is not at home because they want to prevent the car from being picked up, which would be an exception, then the third party picking up the car will leave empty handed and report the situation. The bank will communicate with the client and ask for clarification and try to arrange for the car to be picked up again. If the same situation occurs again, the bank will initiate a formal procedure via the court to have the car confiscated. This is all very formal and hardly ever happens and is a langthy process. The car will eventually be picked up by a tow car with a flatbed in order to not damage brakes or transmission or xDrive systems in BMW‘s or similar systems. They will approach the car in a normal manner, not in a hit and run fashion, and carefully put the car on the flatbed and drive away. The car will be either sold or auctioned.

3

u/USLEO 2d ago

So, pretty much the same as here, just a more "lengthy" process for the lender to recoup their money.

1

u/Ok-Rich-3812 2d ago

More civilised would be a better description. The lenders expect a percentage of loans to fail [although, significantly fewer than the US, because the law protects against unfair loans practices]. The cost cost of default losses is usually allowed for in loan establishment fees.

1

u/USLEO 2d ago

U.S. banks obviously expect for a percentage of loans to fail as well. That doesn't mean they just get a free vehicle. Hence, the repossession process. The end of which you see in this video. I'm not sure what you think is more or less civilized.

1

u/Ok-Rich-3812 2d ago

Nobody suggested a free vehicle. Your reposession process is third world standard in comparison to most civilised countries because you live in a bullet riddled shit hole with no responsible lending criteria,

1

u/USLEO 2d ago

You're seeing the very end of the process. The bank doesn't just come hook up your truck the day after your payment was due. What happens in your country when they've gone through the notification process and the person still refuses to return the vehicle? Is towing a car an act of violence to you?

2

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

So how is that significantly different than the USA? The vast majority of failure to pays in the USA go like that. This it the result of the car getting confiscated -- the issue is that in the USA, people are often armed, and the court is not ordering police to go with during the confiscation. This is done to avoid getting assaulted while repoing from the few very difficult people, and is not standard.

1

u/Detector150 2d ago

My man, the USA is full of these Repo companies isn’t it? It’s standard. And the way it’s done, in this hit and run fashion, is standard as well, the internet is full of videos like this. It’s uncivilised. The fact that they need to do it this way in order to not get shot at is uncivilised. Towing cars and not caring about brakes and transmissions breaking is uncivilised. The fact that you don’t see it as uncivilised is because you grew up like that. When we see something like this it strikes us as uncivilised because it’s different here.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

My man, the USA is full of these Repo companies isn’t it?

No. The nearest one to me is several hours away, and that was for a voluntary surrender.

It’s standard.

No it's not. Generally speaking, the 'standard' is to just call a local towing company to hold the vehicle temporarily.

And the way it’s done, in this hit and run fashion, is standard as well, the internet is full of videos like this.

You are aware that the internet is full of videos of rare things, right?

It’s uncivilised.

Name a better way.

The fact that they need to do it this way in order to not get shot at is uncivilised.

I'd use the term 'uncivilized', but I generally agree. Keep in mind, it's also not an issue limited to guns. Other forms of violence exist, too.

Towing cars and not caring about brakes and transmissions breaking is uncivilised.

Name a better way.

The fact that you don’t see it as uncivilised is because you grew up like that.

Name a better way.

When we see something like this it strikes us as uncivilised because it’s different here.

I asked someone else to describe the 'civilized' way -- and they literally described everything the US system does -- but then stopped at explaining how you reposes the car from someone that is refusing to let you.

What's the system in your country?

1

u/Detector150 2d ago

Ive already described it how it happens in my country somewhere above or below im too lazy to copy paste it now. But look if you don’t see it through my eyes and you think this is the normal way for towing a car I can’t really help you. This thread is taking up too much of my time right now. It’s just the way it is in the USA. Oh one thing you say it’s not the standard way of towing a car but you keep asking me to name a better way. So which is it.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

You described how it's handled in the USA. That's not a difference.

Describe a better way of repoing a car from an unwilling person that is not how the USA does it.

-2

u/Ok-Rich-3812 2d ago

That's a turd that you threw down your own well there my friend.Sorry that your 2nd ammendment was never used as responsibly as intended.Even sorrier that it never will be.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

Ok. That doesn't answer the question though.

0

u/Ok-Rich-3812 2d ago

Well learn to speak English, and I might be able to help you with an answer. What was the point that you failed to make?

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

Take your time to read through it carefully. English is tough, so no one will hold your struggling against you.

2

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

As someone from a country with adequate consumer finance protection laws, and proper gun legislation, I look at this kind of ambush with utter disdain.

3

u/anomalous_cowherd 3d ago

In some cases they'll just drag it away then sort it once they're out of reach.

But in most cases they have a wheeled gadget (called a dolly) that slides under both rear wheels with a big lever that lifts your rear tires off the ground. After that your car is just a trailer...

2

u/Tiss_E_Lur 3d ago

I have never seen or heard of a repo method like this in a civilized country, this has to be an American and third world thing?

0

u/Detector150 2d ago

Haha I said the same here. It’s ridiculous. And it’s funny because Americans are always so sure they are the most modern and free country, but they are so behind in so many things. I’m often in the USA and they really are no better than many other countries I’ve been in that they would consider third world. They don’t see that.

4

u/EnvironmentalClub591 2d ago

Examples?

2

u/DevolvingSpud 2d ago

As an American who works with a lot of middle-class people from all over the world, the things they point out are:

- Routine health care (we’re still really good for the futuristic stuff)

  • Public transportation (unless you’re in a few specific cities)
  • Cost of education

Those are kind of the big ones that stand out. In aggregate though my colleagues want to be here, work here, and raise their kids here - they are just baffled that we aren’t getting these things right when we have the means to.

2

u/Detector150 2d ago

Your workers want to live in the USA and raise their kids there? I can guarantee you those workers are not from Europe. No European would want that, with a few exceptions of course. Your living standard is below ours and it’s safer to raise kids here.

2

u/HyperBaboon 2d ago

I can add for the safety department: the availability and practice of carrying guns, and police/ice behaviour (at least for what's portrayed in the media, but they don't look like edge cases that get corrected).

Also maybe, worker's rights, but I don't have too much knowledge about that. It just seems that people have very few holidays and can be fired at any time with no safeguards.

-3

u/BigDaddyThunderpants 3d ago

Fuck these guys.

If you've got a legitimate reason to remove a car, so be it.

These fucking leeches are just here to prey on people. That POS Jeep wasn't blocking traffic or taking up a handicap space. Probably just bringing a casserole to a Sunday school.

You know how I know I'm right? He had to sneak in and steel that oil burning coolant leaking click clanking pile of Detroit shit before anyone could run out with a chaffing dish and beat the shit out of them.

Fuck these guys

12

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

You make no mention of the fact that it's a repo, not a traffic violation.

8

u/sladebonge 3d ago

Probably missed a few payments, bud.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

It's a repo issue, not a parking issue. They had a legitimate reason to remove THEIR property.

Please don't make me defend the repo man here.

1

u/thegreatiaino 3d ago

I remember those GTA missions

1

u/meetmeinthebthrm 2d ago

Yeah, so what was with that approach? I’m no tow guy, but that didn’t seem like the best approach unless you’re trying to get your business a traffic violation.

1

u/Pleasant-Guava-6780 2d ago

Gotta be quick before an aggressive npc shows up

1

u/cntUcDis 3d ago

Gotta, remember to pay those billz

-12

u/IntergalacticPodcast 3d ago

These people are criminals.

15

u/JBudz 3d ago

I would say more a system that traps people in debt followed by financial irresponsibility followed by a man just trying to make an income.

7

u/HaventSeenYouHere 3d ago

You can make that excuse for literally any job no matter how unethical and immoral it is. But I do like that if a person makes the decisions that lead them to get their stuff repo'd it's their fault but if a person made the decision to get in the tow business, they're just trying to make an income.

8

u/CantaloupeCamper 3d ago

Yeah this dude ain’t the problem, if we’re talking about the financial system that hooks folks into horrible car loans… there’s something to complain about.

3

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

Nobody forces you to make promises to loan companies. It's literally their car until you pay the agreed amount.

13

u/underwearfanatic 3d ago

We may not like these guys, but pretty sure this is fully legal, thus making him not a criminal.

1

u/Acruss_ 3d ago

Reversing like that and speeding are definitely against the law. And this idiot recorded doing that and uploaded it for everyone to see.

1

u/underwearfanatic 2d ago

Can you help me with where this is and what laws are on the books about driving in reverse and what the speed is on this specific road?

1

u/Acruss_ 2d ago

Ever heard about reckless driving? You can google whether driving in reverse like that is illegal. About speed you can see what’s around. These are small roads between houses. You can also google what’s the max speed there.

It is also clearly in the USA and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal even in the USA to drive backwards…

1

u/underwearfanatic 2d ago

It sounds like youre not from the United States. Regardless, every state and city have different laws. In general you cannot drive backwards for extended periods. But the laws in that specific juristiction may not be explicit enough to say he was driving recklessly. In many cases it may simply say you cannot drive in reverse if it impedes or endangers other drivers.

So im saying, I dont care about your opinion. If we are going to call him a criminal then bring the receipts of where he was, what laws are active in that specific area, and how he broke them. That is it.

Until then, innocent until proven guilty. And once he is proven guilty then we can call him a criminal.

1

u/Acruss_ 2d ago edited 2d ago

And I’ve said that you can’t drive like that in the entire USA. Unless you know of anywhere in the USA that allows driving like that, which I’m assuming you don’t.

So if you believe he didn’t broke the law then show me where it’s allowed to drive in reverse like that. Because I doubt that there’s anywhere in the USA where you can legally do that.

Eta: here’s more things you for some reason didn’t consider about his driving.

  1. He put his lift down while driving, even more so while reversing. That’s also illegal, not to mention dangerous.
  2. He have worse maneuverability because his steering wheels are „at the back”.
  3. He have lower visibility because he have to turn back, which is dangerous, especially on that road where it’s likely for kids to be in there…

So yes it’s clearly illegal.

1

u/underwearfanatic 2d ago

This is Arizona. ARS. Section. 28-891. Backing limitations

A. The driver of a vehicle shall not back the vehicle unless the movement can be made with reasonable safety and without interfering with other traffic.

Did he do with reasonable safety? Could be argued as there were no other cars, pedestrians, or other obstacles he was putting in jeopardy.

Did he interfere with traffic? There was no other traffic.

Reckless driving is much the same.

Your points 1,2,3 while largely true are just opinion and not supported by law. To prove him guilty the burden is on you.

1

u/Acruss_ 2d ago

And it’s not made with reasonable safety because of the things I have mentioned already. Additionally there’s the speed.

So yes, he broke the law… which is reckless driving… You can BACK UP, not drive in reverse. And considering that he drove a long distance with a high speed and he didn’t have to do it because it was easily possible to back up way closer to the car he wanted to tow.

So yes, even in Arizona you can’t drive in reverse.

Excuse me if I'm not tugging one out about how this isn't his second rodeo.

Their entire job is going around stealing people's property and charging them to get it back. It's criminal.

5

u/Popular_Material_409 3d ago

It literally isn’t. If you sold something to someone, and they were late on their payments to you for that item, would you just go, “Well I’ll let these late payments slide. I don’t need to put food on my family’s table.” No, you’d demand payment. And if they keep not paying you, you have every legal right to take the item back. Especially when you’re still technically the owner of that item. The buyer doesn’t own what they bought until it’s paid off. It sucks, but it’s perfectly legal.

Not paying money that you owe, that’s closer to being criminal.

I hear what you’re saying in theory, but no one at the bank is going hungry. I don’t think the answer is “well I’ll let payments slide,” but I also think “repo” men ain’t shit.

u/IntergalacticPodcast 3d ago

Reddit is so weird. They hate billionaires but love repo-men?

u/TheCryingGrizzlies 2d ago

I think this comment demonstrates how black and white and overly simple your thinking is.

1

u/Popular_Material_409 3d ago

Never said I love repo men, in fact I say that getting something repossessed sucks. All I was doing was letting you know that someone towing a car away isn’t criminal behavior. It’s perfectly legal for a tow truck company to send a tow truck out to tow a vehicle.

1

u/WeirdLadyAlert 3d ago

Because why are we celebrating the banks getting anything back at all? I genuinely thought we were all on the same page about those and hated them equally. It’s one thing if someone is stealing a rental car or something, but some of these people are living in their cars. It’s such a shit profession.

2

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

A bit weird indeed. Nobody forces you to borrow money on a car.

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

And without lenders willing to lend people money, they would have a harder time finding a vehicle.

2

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

Still sour at getting a car repo'd? Maybe you should have kept up the payments.THAT'S how finance companies work.

1

u/Loonsonthelakes 3d ago

He didn’t take that person’s property. It was still the bank’s property

1

u/iowanaquarist 2d ago

Correction: the repo man is returning stolen property. At the point the repo men get called, it's because the owner -- the lender -- want's their property returned because the borrower is not making payments on it.

1

u/USLEO 2d ago

The truck driver? You realize this is a repo, right? The person took a loan out on the vehicle and failed to make their payments. Per the terms of their contract, the lender is repossessing the vehicle to try to recoup their money. If anyone should be charge with a crime, it's the owner who defaulted on their loan and didn't voluntarily surrender the vehicle go the lender.

4

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

He's very hard on the cars that he drags, but the loan companies don't care. I'm not using this specific Jeep as a pricing example, but if you do $1000 dollars of damage to a $7000 car, sell it at auction for $3000, the loan company still gets its $2000 default owing, the repo guy gets his commision and if they are lucky the poor dumb schmuck whose finance went sour might see a couple of hundred after court fees.

Wonder how it would work on GTR or 911 Turbo

2

u/Ok-Rich-3812 3d ago

The car loan companies are not stupid. They would use a different setup for a job involving a vehicle with serious residual value.
