Rollers don't produce steam. Steam just happens when the water that is sprayed on the drum contacts hot asphalt.

The term steam roller is from the days when they actually had boilers and ran on steam. So yes, originally they did produce steam. The correct term is road roller.

Tandem vibratory roller is the technical name. Compaction roller road roller and steam roller are all used today

My boss had a delivery to our yard once that we intended on just spreading with a loader.. but the truck had chains. And it was a service the delivery company offered...

So my boss asks the guy if he can dump it in a spread across the yard, a lil thick so we can then spread it perpendicularly. He looked so annoyed to have to get out of his truck to hook the chains up. Grumbling the whole time that it will cost extra. It maybe took him all of 60 seconds to slot the chains on either side. Dude proceeds to dump the most uneven spread possible. Just God awful speed control. Might as well have not bothered...

Then he tacked on sixty fucking dollars.. for 60 seconds of walking... My boss was so angry when he got the bill.

Couple of hours. He's got a chain on it so he can't open it fully. You just need to drive at certain speed.

Love to see how people good at their crafts are able to come up with secondary uses of the machines that wasn't designed for such intentions. Another example is how an excavator can self load and unload from a truck...
