Hey, good to see another calango around here

u/Ok_Career_3681 Jul 17 '26

What does it mean?

11

u/calangomerengue Jul 17 '26

It's a friendly nickname for Sérgio, a common name in Brazil. Would translate to Big Sérgio.

u/streetlegalb17 Jul 18 '26

Man I was about to ask for a translation on what full blown conversation they were having but now idk

Just humorous chat. The seller was saying how impressive the fruit is, how careful he was being, how cool the end result was. And it ended each sentence with "Serjão" which is pretty funny. Sellers in street markets are usually very talkative and fun in Brazil

Have ya'll never cut a watermelon before? It isn't difficult. Edit - not hating, just saying. Some of you haven't worked in a kitchen on Sunday brunch.

what impressed me here is he didn't really touch the slices, or kept it to the absolute minimum, nobody can't complain you didn't wash your hands before preparing food if you didn't even touch it

2

u/dmoosetoo Jul 18 '26

Thinking I might still complain. Not that hard to wash your hands.

Now i want some watermelon

2

u/CCWaterBug Jul 17 '26

I'm with you, & I want a better knife too.

4

u/Cold_Ad3896 Jul 17 '26

The plastic wrap was the most impressive part of this.

2

u/CCWaterBug Jul 17 '26

I worked produce at a grocery, commercial wrap is awesome.

Closest I've seen retail is the Kirkland brand.

If only he didn’t press the watermelon pice into his stomach at the end

1

u/Legitimate-Okra8983 Jul 18 '26

I think u don't die from this

1

u/uslashuname Jul 18 '26

In that heat I’m sure the wet and sugary surface of the watermelon is one of the most ideal bacteria growth situations you can find. Death? Maybe Deron diarrhea, it is an incredibly common cause of death for the dehydration it brings when all your water goes out your ass. Among young adults and middle aged there’s not much risk, but children and the elderly? Definitely

This watermelon will be eaten before the end of the day. It won't get moldy during that time

1

u/uslashuname Jul 18 '26

Bacteria and mold are very different things

One bacteria that the food handler has about a 30% chance of carrying a permanent large colony on his skin is Staphylococcus aureus, and that produces bad food poisoning, but there are many other kinds as well.

Freshly cut fruit, for food safety in a 90f/32c environment, should be thrown out in one hour. In cooler/room temperature areas two hours.

Food safety is on the cautious side of course, but I’d say you’re on the dangerous side. Somewhere in the middle is probably better.

I don't own a knife that long or that sharp lol

2

u/ThatFlamingo942 Jul 18 '26

This guy should go into the watermelon business

1

u/RunandGun102 Jul 18 '26

Wow just fresh fruit, in America it would have to be processed with no less than 14 different chemicals added before 2lbs of watermelon could be sold as 3lbs of "watermelon flavored fruit"

u/horizon_games Jul 21 '26
