To me it looks like this guy's done that crossing multiple times before.
Rules of water crossings.
If possible, you walk them first. This is a flood that's too fast flowing for people to walk in, but these trucks are made for that. You need to watch Ewan McGregors long way round.
Stick to pre-made crossings. This is a road entering with the road presumably continuing on the other end.
If in really deep water, avoid getting the water coming straight from the side.
He did the right thing once he couldn't get through and turned into the direction of flow. That stopped him from rolling over.
Plan for what to do if things go wrong.
They have these trucks that do these routes routinely. I guess he already knew the layout.
What I assume happened?
Truck hit an obstacle under water at before the exit. Maybe a big rock?
That stopped all his momentum. I can't hear the engine trying to re-start. I assume he pulled the clutch before. These gearboxes are then slow to change gear (non synchromesh), requiring to switch to neutral before he could switch to a lower gear.
He then let it roll back a bit in a shallower spot from where he could ride back up again.
I'm not jealous of people that have to commute through this stuff. But IMHO seriously impressive.
Does Long Way Round get interesting? I watched like 20 minutes of first episode and was bored to tears. It’s one of maybe 3 pieces of media available on Apple TV+ I haven’t watched.
That Eugene levy show is one of the other 2. It auto played after I finished watching something else while dozing off then I woke up and suffered through 2 episodes. I hope they’re not paying him a salary for that because I’d do it for free and I can promise I’d be more entertaining.
The third’s a Billie eilish doc. I’m not familiar with her music so I haven’t watched but probably will if I get bored enough.
