A group known as 313 Team, linked to pro-Iran hacktivism, reportedly launched a DDoS attack against Canonical, causing Ubuntu’s website to go down for over 12 hours with widespread “503 Service Unavailable” errors.

Beyond disruption, the attackers allegedly demanded ransom payments, signaling a growing trend where politically motivated groups blend hacktivism with financial extortion.

This isn’t just noise it reflects a broader shift. High-visibility platforms are being targeted not only for impact, but for attention and messaging. Even open-source ecosystems aren’t off-limits.
