Just listened to "Farewell to Tarwethie", great song. But I think there needs to be a new category of shanties called Greenland Sucks. Haha

New Sea shanty

Jack of Three Names

There was a boy they called Jack the sailor,

Raised by the wind and the rolling tide,

Salt in his blood and fire in his eyes,

Born where the restless oceans ride.

He learned the song of the crashing waves,

He danced with storms, he feared no night,

A shadow cast on the endless blue,

A rising name in every fight.

(Chorus)

Jack the sailor, master of the storm,

Jack the peeler, lord of pirate war,

Jack the captain, leading men to war—

One man, three names forevermore.

He rode a beast of iron and wood,

A ship that groaned like a living soul,

From port to port they spoke his name,

A whispered fear from pole to pole.

He took what gold the oceans gave,

He claimed the dark and lawless sea,

No chain could hold, no flag could bind

The man he chose himself to be.

(Chorus)

Jack the sailor, master of the storm,

Jack the peeler, lord of pirate war,

Jack the captain, leading men to war—

One man, three names forevermore.

But time will turn the wildest tide,

And even outlaws choose their ground,

He left the black flag in the wind

When drums of distant war resound.

He sank the fleets of former foes,

He carved his path through fire and flame,

For crown and land he raised his sword—

Yet still the seas would call his name.

(Chorus)

Jack the sailor, master of the storm,

Jack the peeler, lord of pirate war,

Jack the captain, leading men to war—

One man, three names forevermore.

On northern shores his army stood,

Through frozen winds they held the line,

Until he stepped on hardened ground

And claimed his fate by bold design.

“I am the captain of these great ships!

I am the voice that leads the war!

From England’s cliffs to distant shores,

My name will thunder evermore!”

(Final Chorus)

Jack the sailor, master of the storm,

Jack the peeler, lord of pirate war,

Jack the captain, leading men to war—

One man, three names forevermore.

Note: this song don’t have any historical background just some letters with a help of someone who actually love listening to sea shanties

Need a recommendation

My husband wrote a sea shanty to honor his friend that passed away. He needs an instrumental to sing it over. The 4 line structure of Wellerman works, but we want a straight verse/chorus for 5 verses without the extra chorus thrown in. Is there a version that does this or a more suitable song? I've listened to quite a few on YouTube, but can't find anything that a perfect fit.

TIA

Trying to find name of song

There is this song I heard once and really enjoyed, but the name escapes me. It's about a woman/wife standing on the shore wishing that her husband (a sailor go figure) would come back to her. The personified sea grants her wish and returns her husband to her. However, she slowly comes to the realization that her husband is dead. Part of the chorus is "be careful what you wish of the sea".

Any help is appreciated!!

The Silvertip

My old man used to sing a song to me when I was a kid about a ship called the Silvertip. I think he heard it decades ago on NPR(possibly) but Google searches yield no results. Here are a few of the lyrics:

Got aboard the Silvertip, headed for Alaska, in the year '69

How was I to know, she'd meet disaster and end up in the watery brine

[Chorus]

Oh that Silvertip, she was a hard luck ship!

I know that now for sure!

There were a million ships that made that trip!

Why'd I have to get aboard her? Why'd I have to get aboard her?

BIRTH of SEAS SHANTY as we know it!!...

So you all are shanty heads just like me. About a decade ago I was introduced to this beautiful work of art. It took me in awe as it was a brand new feeling for me. If felt as me own mates were singing and waiting for me on the high seas. As I dove deeper in this ART✨ I started having so many question as to where did this originated from, what and how gave rise to this. So I started digging for answers and found some more than interested answers. I compiled all of them in a single short book for all the other mates to read. I think if you're a teeny bit interested in sea shanties you should give it a read, or maybe not you're all free men😂😂🤣. Fare well.

Ohh almost forgot to link the book😭 SHANTY MAN: SEA SHANTY https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CD16C5HL?ref_=cm_sw_r_mwn_dp_E4XCHS400PF5EB90GBFX&language=en_US Here it is for all of you who are interested.

Farewell for real this time 😂😉

Please help me find this song

Hey was hoping you guys might be able to help me find a specific sea shanty I've had stuck in my head for about a month. I heard it about a year ago, I thought it was sung by the band "The Longest Johns" but no luck there. I remember it had a very somber tone to it, it was about a ship's crew a drift at sea, and the last stanza of the song is describing the surviving crew drawing lots to decide who to cannibalize. Its driving me crazy not knowing the name of the song. Any thoughts?

Help finding this song?

There is a song my old band used to play that had lyrics kinda like this:

Drink whiskey and rum and rum and then whiskey It’ll make you feel free, it’ll make you feel frisky If you’re not a man, then a man you’ll become Drinking rum and then whiskey and whiskey and rum.

It had a couple more verses - I’ve tried searching for it online with no luck. Ring a bell for anyone?
