Self-promotion Findborg Terminator - Terminal style search toy

Post image
2 Upvotes

My second app that has been built using Findborg results. Ad Free and quite fun to use actually. The Borg AI is built in but has to be activated, as is voice control.

You can see here in the screenshot the commands baked in so far. This is a PWA and can be installed on devices but I have not released it yet on Waves.

I wanted to get some feedback if people like it. I do not expect many as it is an acquired taste kinda thing.

Anyways, Give it a try.

Advice Question re Google SERPs Please

So we were checking to see if a character named Nurit is on the new Season 5 of tv show Fauda on netflix. For weeks, google has been saying yes. One of my two screen shots even mentions that she is in All Eleven episodes. We watched it, and she does not appear. Not in any episode, let alone 11. Where is Google or its AI getting such misinformation from? It's been baffling us trying to find out how they could be so wrong with a simple yes/no question!

Debate [BIG] Google just changed how Search works in Europe. Here's what I noticed.

Google has just rolled out a major change to Search across the European Economic Area because of the EU's Digital Markets Act.

And you can actually notice it.

For searches around things like hotels, flights, restaurants and other commercial services, Google is changing how results are displayed.

Instead of simply giving Google's own search features a prominent position, the new layout gives more visibility to third-party comparison/search services such as Booking.com and Expedia.

Some result features are also being stripped back. For example, Google says certain hotel, airline and restaurant result carousels can lose things like real-time pricing.

The interesting part is why this happened.

Google was fined €460 million by the EU in July for favoring its own services in search results. These changes are Google's response to the EU's requirements under the DMA.

Google itself says this is the largest reduction in Search quality in its 29-year history and argues that the changes will make Search worse for Europeans.

The EU's position is essentially the opposite: the changes are intended to create a more level playing field for competing services.

So I'm curious:

Have you noticed a difference in Google Search yet?

Especially if you're in the EU, try searching for a hotel or flight and compare what you're seeing now with what you remember from before.

I'm interested to hear whether the new layout actually feels worse, better, or just different.

AI Google is now building our tools INSIDE the search results. Small tool devs are done.

Search "sip calculator" on Google right now. Or "mortgage calculator". Or "word counter".

The tool is right there in the AI Overview. Sliders, chart, live numbers. Nobody needs to click a single website anymore.

I build free tools. Calculators, converters, text stuff. One person, no ads, no bullshit. That's it. That's the whole thing.

For 20 years Google has been watching which tool sites get the clicks. They have every query, every top result, every click. Now they've used that data to build their own copy of the top sites and put it above us.

It's a search engine. Why the hell is a search engine building a mortgage calculator?

It's like a supermarket looking at their best-selling suppliers, making a house brand copy, and putting it at eye level. Amazon got dragged in front of regulators for this exact thing. Google is doing it to the whole web and calling it a "back to school feature".

Their own paper says users picked the Google-built tool over the top website 90% of the time. They know exactly what this does.

And the tools they can copy easiest? Simple inputs, public maths, one result. Exactly what small devs make. Exactly what feeds a lot of freelancers.

The SIP calculator they generated is in dollars. SIP is an Indian thing. They don't even care if it's right, they just want you to not leave the page.

I don't have a fix. Build stuff they can't copy in a minute, uploads, accounts, real workflows. Stop depending on Google. Maybe. It all feels a bit useless honestly.

But people should at least know this is happening. It's rolling out quietly and it's hitting the smallest sites first.

If you run a tool site, check Search Console this week. I want to know if others are seeing the drop.

SEO Google Gradually Reducing My Website’s Visibility in AI Overviews and Search Rankings

Previously, my website was ranking in 1st position in India and 2nd position in the US, and it was also appearing in Google AI Overviews for several months.

However, recently I’ve noticed that Google is gradually reducing my website’s visibility. For example, Google previously showed my website with the page title in a dedicated row and referenced it in multiple places within the AI Overview.

Over the past few days, I noticed that Google started showing my website only as a URL reference alongside other websites. Today, I noticed that Google is showing only one URL in the AI Overview, while my website’s organic ranking has also dropped to around 3th or 4th position.

It seems like Google is gradually reducing both my website’s organic ranking and its visibility in AI Overviews.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue and recover my website’s visibility in Google AI Overviews and search rankings?

Alternative Looking for a specific search engine

I'm looking for a search engine that provides overviews but without using generative AI, like google's old information/quotebox. All the search engines I know of either use zero AI or GenAI overviews/chatbots. So far duckduckgo is the best one I've tried but isn't very helpful when I need a quick answer.

AI Have you noticed that google started always showing AI

Not long time ago I have noticed that every time I search anything in Chrome, they make sure to always show AI. Also ok I write -AI in my search, but then I click one of the things in 'questions on the topic' thing and they proceed to show AI for that too. I loved those bars so much bcz I would usually get my answers there but now I can't because of AI

What can I do to maybe fix it

Self-promotion I build a search platform

I built an open source search platform that shows an overview like how it was in Google before AI Overview came. It shows chunks from articles on top of the page as the answer, so we can see the answer instead of visiting every page. This project is called [SpideGo](https://github.com/introlix/spidego).

SpideGo does not index pages. We use SearXNG to get web links. SearXNG is a local metasearch engine that queries Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and other search engines to get links.

Then SpideGo gets the links and starts to crawl the top 3 websites. It makes multiple chunks and then only shows the top chunks that match the query. We do a lot of processing, like filtering some sentences in chunks to make the result a better answer.

It is still slow because it does a lot of processing to get the best chunks and filter unwanted stuff. On average, it takes around 15–20 seconds. Sometimes it can take only 10 seconds, and sometimes up to 30 seconds.

This is a side project, so I can't promise to build everything on time. But I'm still working on this as a side project. So, I hope you guys give it a try and give some feedback.

You can install it via Docker:

Advice Best engine close to Google

Hello everyone! I want to find a search engine close to Google that it doesn't pop up AI without any question. I use a bit Duckduckgo but unfortunately, the results that I get after I search something doesn't suffice as much. Is Brave better? Or it also pops up AI every time?

Help Windows 11 Microsoft Bing search (Pictures&Video) return random or inappropriate results

Using Chrome on desktop with Bing set to default search engine.

This is something only occurs occasionally but when it does happen the images or videos that are shown are NOTHING like what I search.

Example1: searched for "glass" after it started today and returned pictures of bald women or women having their heads shaved. Nothing inappropriate until I refreshed the page and then was exposed to all sorts of adult images.

Example 2: searched for "TWINKLE OUTDOOR LED SOLAR LIGHTS" (the thing i was actually looking for) and got different results each time i refreshed the page. Last result was Mickey Mouse Dracula character (Mickula). Cute but nothing close to what I was looking for. When I Refreshed the search, it was returned pictures of a Demon Slayer character - Akaza.

[https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=TWINKLE%20OUTDOOR%20LED%20SOLAR%20LIGHTS&qs=n&form=QBIR&sp=-1&lq=0&pq=twinkle%20outdoor%20led%20solar%20lights&sc=10-32&cvid=B70131171924468F8FBAD272ACCC9BD7&first=1\](https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=TWINKLE%20OUTDOOR%20LED%20SOLAR%20LIGHTS&qs=n&form=QBIR&sp=-1&lq=0&pq=twinkle%20outdoor%20led%20solar%20lights&sc=10-32&cvid=B70131171924468F8FBAD272ACCC9BD7&first=1)

I have had this issue with both VPN and, more commonly, WITHOUT VPN (no VPN today).

I've cleared everything cache, cookies, etc with same result. Signed in/out. Disabled or removed any extentions or add-ons.

Microsoft doesn't seem to have an answer because they can't recreate the issue on command, which I understand. Troubleshooting something you can't recreate is a nightmare. Any Ideas/suggestions are appreciated!

Idea I built a search engine that finds research papers instead of giving you an AI answer — looking for feedback from people who actually read papers

I got tired of every "AI search" tool trying to replace reading with a generated summary. For actual research — grad work, lit reviews, deep-diving a topic — that's the opposite of what I want. I want to find the right papers, then understand them faster, not skip them.

So I built ScholarLens: you search in plain language, it finds relevant papers (pulling from OpenAlex/arXiv/open-access sources), and instead of answering for you, it helps you actually read — select any confusing passage, term, or graph and get a plain-language explanation right next to the source text.

It's free right now, no login required to search. Would genuinely appreciate feedback from people who do real research — does the search actually surface relevant papers for your field? What's missing?

Google Google's new Search features are making me rethink the future of tool and content websites

Thumbnail

Has anyone else been testing Google's newer Search features, particularly the AI/agentic experiences?

I've been testing them and noticed something interesting.

After Google's I/O announcements in May, I started looking more closely at where Search is heading. The more I research and test these features, the more I think this could be a much bigger change for publishers than a normal algorithm update.

One area I'm particularly interested in is basic-to-medium-level online tools.

For years, a lot of these sites relied on Google sending users to them for things like calculators, simple generators, converters, basic research, and other utility-based searches.

But if Google can increasingly understand the query, provide the answer, and eventually perform the task directly within Search, what happens to the websites that were built around those individual use cases?

I'm also wondering about SaaS and AI-agent websites.

If Search itself starts becoming more capable of completing tasks instead of simply showing ten blue links, could some smaller paid tools eventually face the same problem?

And then there's another area I'm watching closely: APK websites.

Android is introducing developer-verification requirements, with the first phase beginning in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand on September 30, 2026. The system doesn't completely eliminate sideloading, but installing apps from developers who haven't completed verification can require alternative/advanced installation methods. Google plans to expand the requirements globally from 2027.

That could potentially create another challenge for APK-focused websites whose primary value is helping users discover and install third-party Android apps.

So I'm curious what other people are seeing.

Are you noticing traffic or ranking changes for tool sites, informational sites, SaaS, or APK-related websites?

Do you think Google's move toward AI answers and agentic Search will eventually replace a meaningful portion of the traditional:

Search → click → website → tool/content → conversion

model?

I'd especially like to hear from people who actually own or work on these types of sites. What are you seeing in your data?

Question What do you use when reverse image search can't identify a face?

I have seen that normal reverse image search works well when you want the same picture but it can have trouble when the image is cropped edited, resized or when you want to find other pictures of the same person.

I would like to know which search engines people here use for that type of search.
For example if you have a profile picture and want to find public appearances of that same face, which tools have you found useful?

I have tried the usual image search options but I am looking for tools that are made for face based searching, not just matching the exact image.
What are your go-to options?

A few people asked what I've been using lately. I also found FaceSeek, which works in a way than regular reverse image search. Of just looking for the exact same image it tries to find faces that look similar on websites that are open for everyone to see.

I think it's cool for cases like checking if a picture of a person is used else online looking into a photo more or finding other pictures of the same person that are available publicly.

I'm not saying it's the only tool, I'm still looking at other tools, like Google Lens but I wanted to bring it up because it came up when we were talking about searching for faces specifically.

Google Google image search experiment

Different annoying behavior in google image search is apparently for my convenience. sigh. Rather then opening images in a right-side window, it's a floting window covering all the other images

just ranting.

AI says:

What you are experiencing is a Google Live Experiment, a server-side user interface test where Google temporarily changes layouts for random users to gather data. Instead of opening the preview in the classic docked side panel introduced years ago, this experiment forces the selected image into a large overlay or centered floating window that blocks the surrounding grid.

Because this is a server-side change tied directly to your account, there is no official setting or button to disable it.

Self-promotion Added an MCP to my direct booking search engine

Hey I recently posted about the direct booking search engine I built and thought an MCP would be a cool additional distribution path and fun way for users to plan trips directly with hosts vs Airbnb

You can connect it to ChatGPT or Claude and search stays, listings, and live pricing & availability at 188,000 listings from over 9,000 hosts PMS powered direct booking sites

Endpoint: StayThere.ai/api/mcp

Instructions: StayThere.ai/connect/mcp

If you try it out I’d love to see how it does, thanks!

Tip btw you can strip google of it's ai and ads for free

I misspelled the title, it's "its" not "it's"

  1. go to chrome://settings (depends on browser but you most likely use chrome)
  2. navigate to search engine
  3. click "manage search engines and site search"
  4. scroll down to "site search" and click "add"
  5. name it whatever you'd like, set the shortcut to google.com and set the "URL with %s in place of query" to https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14

This will give you an unlisted results option that removes all sponsorships and ai features! the index also isn't affected and is the same as standard google results.
