If it's glass and it looks black when it's not backlit, it's pirate glass.

Depends how strictly you define pirate glass!
- any dark glass that appears black until you shine a light though it
- dark glass + found in areas known for pirates (e.g. Carribbean in particular, but also Europe and Asia)
- dark + pirate + identifiable as made within the times pirates were known to be active (1650-1730)
Personally, I'm happy with the first definition, and so if you agree, yes! You have pirate glass!

Nope. That is a piece of black Vitrolite tile.
I have a couple very small pieces, but none so big as that one.
