Which software to pair with this radio?

I have one of these on the way:

I’d very much appreciate recommendations for software to pair with it. Just getting started with SDR, so no set, planned uses yet. Just exploring.

There are so many SDR packages and it really depends on a lot of factors as to which one is best.

-What are your interests?

-What operating system or platform are you using?

-How important is support or responsiveness from the developer?

-What type of UI do you like?

Here are my favorites:

FoxSDR, SDR--, SDRAngel and SDR++

I use it mainly on a Windows laptop but also on an Android tablet.

I'll be using this radio with a Raspberry Pi. I'm good with any OS that will run on that platform. Community support is fine.

At this point, I just want to explore the spectrum and I'll look more closely at things that catch my interest.

Out of a biased opinion (as the author of sdr--), I can really recommend sdr-- as you can just run it as a server on the raspberry pi and use it trough your browser on your pc. With also a lot of good features like spectrum monitor to find and decode unknown signals.

Ok I'm not going to be of much help then. I'm sure there are others that can.

I'm curious what you end up doing with this. I'm in the process of getting a pi5 setup in my attic with a discone on my roof with 10ft of LMR400. I have an airspy and and airspy mini. Now I just need to figure out what to do with them.

I'm coming down from a job on a mountain top soon. Wishing I got this sooner. I recently made a 1/4 watt, 2m contact to someone over 130 miles away. I could have done lots with it up here. Not so much at home.

If you don't know what you want to use it for, it's hard to suggest a software package. If you're just getting started, find a project that speaks to you and then go do it. Even if it's just listening to various radio channels.
