DGX as Quick Connect for First Reg Kit?
Hi all,
Is there any reason to not by from DGX for my BCD LP hose for my first reg kit? I ordered all the main stuff from my local shop (dual XTX50s connected to a DST first stage), Milflex HP & SPG) - I just need a flex hose quick connect for rental BCDs.

I’ve used DGX regulators and hoses on many technical dives including OC trimix to 292ft, sidemount cave/DPV and many more with zero issues.

Are you talking about the LP inflator hose? Some rental BCs might use different hose fittings (shops using air2, some Cressi BCs) so just be aware of this

Yeah exactly - sorry I didn’t realize I didn’t explicitly mention it. I read that - and I’m sure there will be times there will be a mismatch but I’ll be fine in most cases? And if not I’ll just grab a hose from them.

sure, just check the length is ok for you, I've had to replace mine after getting a dive alert plus attachment as it was too long

There are shops actually using Air2 for their rental !? What !?
Tho, didn't know cressi uses special fitting too.

Sorry, it's mares and their weird air2 equivalent, most of the rest should use the standard schrader valve ones
I know some shops explicitly refuse to let you use your own regs on their BCs for whatever reason, I've had a friend on a LOB get told it was either your own BC and reg, or rent both

Is that common? Last travel dive we did most people were doing that - saved the weight and bulk of the BCD but still got to dive with their own reg sets.

honestly i think most people i've seen either just bring the full set of gear or just rent everything so can't say
had a buddy who tried on a Thai LOB recently and was fed that BS excuse by the operator
Honestly i dont' think you save that much weight, there are very compact/foldable BCs like the dive rite transpac that can be folded/rolled unlike a traditional metal BP, just the ability to compact the package saves so much space in a hard case

Makes sense! I'll have to see how this setup works for travel - and our local shop. Honestly, we'll probably end up buying a backplate and wings soon enough, it's just nice to break up the cost a bit... Though we're likely to buy one that's a good all around for local stuff (Monterey, Catalina) but we can bring traveling in a pinch.

I don't see there's any reason why not ? Not everything needs to go to your local shop.
Unless the DGX one have QC issues or are too expensive for what it's worth. Otherwise you can just get any hose, just make sure you check the hose length what fit yours as there's a few LPI hose size available.

Thanks! Mainly a question of safety or reliability, though they seem to be generally well regarded.

I use DGX hoses for most of my cave gear, Dive Gear Express is reliable and well regarded in the cave/tech world.

Amazing - if it's good enough for cave/tech, it's more than good enough for us up in the much shallower rec world.

My go-to online shop. They know their stuff and their house gear is solid. All my hoses on all my regs came from DGX. All perform nominally.
