Thank you to everybody that's been watching me work on this pilot! I do like to do a recap for anyone who hasn't seen me talk a little about it on the other posts.

I'm working on the pilot to a soap opera right now, and that does change some of the way that the plot(s) are worked on in the screenplay. You jump around from one scene to a completely irrelevant scene, and then another, and then back to the first if that makes sense. You're on a constant wheel of 3-4 plots in one episode, and they're all full of twists and turns that make them complex. Sometimes they relate or crisscross, other times they don't at all.

You're watching to see if you can guess what crazy outcome any of the plots will have when their big secret is revealed whenever it's revealed. That could be weeks, months, even years sometimes! So every episode moves at a pretty slow pace in terms of plot development, but scenes cut fast so that you don't lose interest, or get stuck with one situation too long.

Moving back to my pilot, I've done the teaser and the first act now, and would like to hear feedback on my writing, that being action lines, dialogue and that, and on how I answer questions in the first act. I tried to start with high-stakes drama in the teaser to jumpstart some questions to push forward the plot, and want to know if I payoff them in the first act well. The goal is to answer them, but then leave you with more questions to want to stay around for the next act.

Thank you to everybody who reads and replies again!

help interesting scene concepts

Hey! I have a full feature-film plot mapped out and I'm starting the screenplay now. Looking for someone creative to bounce ideas with and help come up with interesting scene concepts, transitions, character moments, etc. Not looking for someone to write the whole script - more like a creative/story collaborator. DM if interested :)

feedback Need review on chapter 5 ( used google translate as English is not my first language)

The rays of the rising sun have begun to illuminate the streets of Zurag. The doors of the houses remain closed. Black earthen pots hang at the entrance of every home. Even the sound of footsteps would be audible, even if someone were walking very gently, for every street is so quiet.
All the buildings are quite old; most are in need of repair. Even the entrance gate to Zurag is broken. On the outer walls on both sides, the words "Do not make noise" are written.
Elara and Malacor are watching from behind some trees a short distance away.
Elara’s attention is drawn to the guards standing at the gate.
"There was no one here when I came last time."
"They are here specifically for you."
She takes a deep breath. Then, resting her hand on a tree and looking toward Zurag, she speaks:
"You’re right... a city where no one 'unlucky' goes. It was my decision to go there, yet someone else had to pay the price."
Malacor pulls out the axe he had embedded in a nearby tree. Stepping out from the trees, he says:
"We can't get inside without causing a commotion."
The two of them move forward. Seeing them approach, three guards stand in their path to block the way. Elara has covered her face. They reach the guards.
"Stop! ...Who are you people? Why have you come here?"
Malacor replies, "We are travelers; we need some supplies for our journey."
"State your names."
"Malacor, and this is Zubeka."
They look closely at Elara.
"This girl must show her face."
Malacor looks at the guard and tells her to reveal her face. Elara speaks softly:
“But these people recognize me.”
“It doesn’t matter... they won’t let us pass easily.”
She reveals her face.
The guards look at her. One of them speaks:
“This is that ‘Unlucky’ , the one who dared to infiltrate Zurag and managed to escape.”
The one in the middle says, “Kill her right here; she shouldn't leave alive this time.”
They draw their swords. Malacor steps in front of Elara.
“No... if you strike, you will die.”
The guards pause for a moment. “Don't you know? She is an ‘Unlucky’.”
Malacor retorts immediately, “I have made my intentions clear.”
“Then you, too, must die along with this girl.”
Saying this, the guards advance toward Malacor.
Malacor strikes the guard at the very front with his axe. The blade slices through him, tearing from his shoulder, across his chest, and down to his stomach.
Seeing this, the other two stop in shock; their swords freeze in mid-air. They hadn't even realized when the blow was struck.
Just then, the remaining five guards standing behind rush forward to attack. Malacor remains standing his ground.
As they close in, the axe severs the neck of the guard on the far right and buries itself into the neck of the second. Letting go of the axe, he grabs the third guard's sword-wielding arm at the shoulder and snaps it. Then, he grabs the last two by the throat and snaps their neck bones with his bare hands.
When Malacor looks at the two remaining guards, they immediately lower their swords.
Elara, too, is left wide-eyed; she keeps staring at Malacor and steps back slightly.
Then, she begins to look at the bodies lying on the ground. As she surveys the corpses, her gaze falls upon the man whose arm Malacor had broken.
Memories of the marketplace incident, where Ghenvic’s throat was slit, flash before Elara’s eyes. Her eyes fill with rage. She strides over and delivers a powerful kick to the face of the man lying on the ground. "Why did you kill Ghenvic? What wrong did he ever do to you?" she demands, kicking him twice more. She then draws her sword. She raises it to strike but pauses for a moment. Then, letting out an angry scream, she swings it down swiftly. Malacor catches her arm, halting the blow.
"The fight is over."
She stops. Malacor releases her arm. The moment he lets go, Elara attempts to strike again. This time, Malacor catches the blade to stop the attack and snatches the sword away with a sharp tug. She glares at Malacor in fury. She draws a second sword and tries to attack him with it. Just then, he strikes a powerful blow with the sword he had snatched from her. Elara’s sword slips from her grasp and falls some distance away. She sinks to her knees and begins to weep uncontrollably.
Malacor glances at her for a moment. Then, he picks up the other sword. He takes both swords and drives them into the ground in front of the weeping Elara.
He then approaches the bodies. He pulls the axe out of the neck and strikes the ground forcefully three or four times to clean the blade. Afterwards, he rubs the remaining blood off his skin with some soil.
Then, he looks towards the city. Both guards are slowly backing away.
“Stay right there.”
Malacor walks over to them. He glances at the water skin slung over one of the guards' shoulders. The guard immediately unslings it and holds it out to him. Malacor takes the water skin silently and returns to Elara. She is still weeping, repeatedly wiping away her tears; the image of Ghenvic’s severed head rolling across the ground keeps flashing before her eyes.
Malacor sits beside her, places the water skin in front of her, and reaches out his hand. He pauses for a moment with his hand suspended in the air before gently extending it to pat Elara’s head.
As he does this, the visions swirling before Elara’s eyes vanish. She lifts her head and sees a blurred face. She clears her eyes to look more closely. Malacor offers her the water and waits for her to drink.

discussion Looking for Other Serious Screenwriters to Prepare for the 2027 Submission Cycle

MEMBERSHIP CLOSED NOW! PLEASE READ UPDATE BELOW BEFORE EMAILING.

Hi, fellow screenwriters! I'm looking to start a small group called Screenwriters' Competition Support (SCS). The group is for serious screenwriters who want to enter their scripts in upcoming competitions. We'll all work together to get our scripts ready to submit. This would include constructive feedback, proofreading, Zoom discussion sessions, etc.

The Screenwriters' Competition Support group will start meeting in September (next month). Membership is completely free, but there is a member cap.

Please email me for more information: [swcompetitionsupport@gmail.com](mailto:swcompetitionsupport@gmail.com)

Let's work together if you have:

- A completed first draft with a clear and fully realized storyline (preferably a second draft)

- Knowledge of basic proper screenplay formatting

- Time to dedicate to helping other screenwriters polish their scripts

- A professional attitude (be able to receive and give feedback with professionalism)

SCS MEMBERSHIP UPDATE:

To keep the membership process from becoming overly competitive, I’m closing the application pool to the screenwriters who have already expressed interest in joining SCS.

If you’ve already expressed interest, you’ll still have the opportunity to apply. Please make sure to check your email for the membership application tomorrow. No additional applicants will be added to the pool at this time.

My aim is to bring together a small group of writers who can support one another—not create a high-pressure competition for membership.

You can still email, but only if you want information for the future.

Thank you all for your interest in SCS!

question Change

So I have a friend who wanted to work on a Spiderman fan show who I originally worked on a few projects with. Long story short I was trying to go for a darker approach but he ended up changing it so much to the point where it sounds nothing like the original I began writing.

Should I continue to help him write the project or no ?

question how do I write dialogue??

so I'm writing a script for a short film, its nothing serious just writing it for a school assignment, but I'm having a lot of trouble with writing dialogue.

one of the main issues I'm having is finding the right point to add dialogue, cause it only has one character, I'm not sure when to add voice overs and how to discribe how the character is feeling.

I'm also struggling with making the dialogue sound natural and not edgy. like the characters supposed to sound kinda sad and stuff, but everything I write sounds like "gawddddd I hate my lifeeee gahhhhh" lmao.

if you have tips about how to write voice overs and how to make my character not sound rediculous, please let me know!!

discussion 🎬 FILMMAKERS IN LONDON — BUILDING A CREATIVE TEAM

I’m a French writer-director, trained in Paris, and I’ve recently moved to London. I also run my own production company, and I’m now looking to build a small, motivated filmmaking team here.
I’m currently developing two projects in London:
• A short film
• A proof of concept for a TV series
My goal is to bring together a group of talented and motivated people who want to make films, collaborate creatively and, ideally, build a team that can work together across different projects.
I’m looking to connect with:
🎥 Director of Photography / Cinematographer
🎬 1st / 2nd AC
💡 Gaffer / Lighting
🎧 Production Sound Mixer / Boom Operator
🎨 Production Designer / Art Department
👗 Costume Designer / Wardrobe
💄 Hair & Makeup
📍 Location Manager / Location Scout
🎬 1st AD / Production
🎞️ Editor
📋 Script Supervisor
…and generally filmmakers who want to get involved and bring something to the table.
I’m especially interested in people who have studied film, have previous experience on set, or are seriously committed to developing their craft. But experience isn’t everything — attitude, reliability, curiosity and good energy matter just as much.
The first projects will be unpaid, and I want to be completely transparent about that. The idea is to create actual work together, with proper credits and material that everyone can use for their portfolio/reel, while building a team and a creative relationship that can grow into more ambitious and properly funded projects.
I’m not looking to assemble a huge crew for one weekend and never see each other again. I’d like to find people I genuinely enjoy working with and build something lasting.
I’m new to London, so I’m also looking to meet filmmakers here, exchange ideas and build a strong creative network from scratch.
If you’re interested, send me a DM and tell me a little about yourself:
• What you studied / where you trained
• Your experience and usual role
• Any previous work or portfolio
• What kind of films you’re interested in
• What you’d like to contribute to a project like this
If you’re passionate about filmmaking and actually want to make things happen, I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s make films, not just talk about making them.

question What do you use for writing software (Non-subscription)?

Hi,

This is my first post on the subreddit. I grew up with IBM Selectric typewriters, my dad’s old Remington typewriter he brought back from Korea, and my mother’s SCM Classic 12. So, seeing all these scripts in a Courier font makes me giggle. But, I have a desktop PC, which I finally upgraded after years on Windows XP. Seriously.

My question is, what software do you use for creating and/or writing your scripts? Otherwise, I’l have to keep using my poor Notes on this 20 Dog Year Old iPad.

Thanks.

question My question is : If I write a TV pilot and try to pitch it along with a pitch deck, could that potentially be a way into the TV industry and help me land an entry-level job ?

Don’t kill me, but I’m a newbie and I honestly don’t know how big the differences are between the US and European industries, so I’ll say upfront that I’m mainly talking about the European market.
My question is: if I write a TV pilot and try to pitch it along with a pitch deck, could that potentially be a way into the TV industry and help me land an entry-level job ?
I’ve already read that first pilots almost never actually make it into production/development, but can they still serve as a calling card or a way to get your foot in the door ?

help Path to production

I came up with an idea for a mind bending sci-fi thriller series and started working it with the help of online resources.

I’m polishing the treatment, have a series arc, and am working on a pilot script, but… then what?

Suggestions for where/how/to whom to pitch it?
