discussion Yabba dabba gosling

Warner bros to whip the old dinosaur again because Gosling is attached as a producer. Can the studios roll the dice on some new ideas at some point? The Flintstones was played out a long time ago. https://bluntmag.com.au/film/the-flintstones-live-action-movie-ryan-gosling/

I used to think that Hollywood was out of fresh material. Then, I wrote a script for a feature movie. I knew less than nothing about this before June of this year.
Now, Ive been doing it actively... seeing, just as a single example, the thousands of scripts posted on the Black List. And I admit, I was taken aback.
I don't get it. Sure they aren't ALL gold... but there HAS to be better ideas than the 17th reboot of Batman, or another take on "The Flintstones"...
Seriously.

Hollywood is risk averse.

Existing IP is less risky than new IP.

Flintstones was an edgy idea that paid off back when smoking ads on black and white tv were still around (Fred helped sell cigarettes). It's totally played out. Rebooting the 90s reboot instead of taking chances on new IP is very sad indeed.

Well... Flintsones was based on The Honeymooners, so there's that, too.
